Where the Views Hit Different
The West Coast glaciers are my pick for the most dramatic version of this. Flying over Franz Josef or Fox Glacier is all steep peaks and tight valleys - really different energy from something like Mt Cook where it's big and open. Worth knowing we likely only have another decade or so of glaciers sitting in that rainforest setting, so there's something to that. The Ones You Wouldn't Expect
Kaikoura is an interesting one - you can combine whale watching from the air with a genuinely good coastal scenic flight. You won't get as close to the whales as you do by boat, but the scale of them from above is something else. And over in the Wanaka side of things, the Siberia Experience packages a flight into an isolated walk and jetboat combo - less people go for it but that's kind of the point.
