Hired a helicopter between 4 of us, flew over Bay of Islands and up to Cape Reinga.
Landed on 90 Mile Beach for awhile. Amazing! Then met near Cape Reinga by 4x4 for 2hr trip back to helicopter. Fantastic trip.

What a WOW expierence!
Starting with Lynn in the Auckland terminal who gave us exceptionally good service helping with our logistic planning to the piolts and Bay of Islands staff, all were great!
We were lucky enough to have 2 perfect days of weather for our flights! The scenery was breath-taking. It truly was the best way to experience the beauty of the top of the North Island. The extra activities were fun and informitive. Treat yourself, take a Salt Air Flight!

We did the plane trip - same itinerary as the other reviews and yes it is as good as they say.
The organisation is spot on and the care and attention second to none. Like others I was as sick as a dog both on the way out and the return but it was so worth it I would go again tomorrow. When you think that others spend a whole day in a sweaty coach there is really no comparison to be able to see both sides of the N island at the same time and look down the Bay of Islands. Expensive but worth every cent.

This is a must do if near Paiha as this was value for money and a life time experience.
We chose the Heli/cruise which start at 9am with a boat cruise around the Bay of Islands.
Shaun was our boat tour guide and he was brilliant, easy to talk to and was very knowledgable about the area. We had two Island hopes with the last one being our own private beach for the next 3 hours.
We had our lunch which we brought with us and spent time exploring, swimming and lazing in the sun. We were then picked up and transferred to the floating Heli pad. The copper arrived a few minutes later and we choppered off over the Bay of Islands to "The hole in the Rock". What a fantastic view we had from the chopper. I highly recommend it regardless of cost as you won't regret it.

We did the half day fly/drive tour from Pahia to Cape Reinga.
the conditions on the day were a bit bumpy and passengers where given the option to change their minds, which a couple did.
The tour was brilliant. Our pilot was knowledgeable and friendly and provided an interesting commentary throughout the flights. Coach driver also was friendly, knowledgeable and entertaining.
the whole operations seemed slick and professional and the plane and bus were quite new.
Cape Reinga itself was brilliant. A fascinating place both in terms of the physical environment and in terms of the spiritual maori culture side of things. We had a brief explanation from our guide to make sure we didn't miss the critical points, and then had half an hour to wander down to the lighthouse. I bit longer there would have been good. Morning tea was at a nearby beach which was natural and beautiful. Morning tea was fairly frugal so make sure you have a good breakfast or lunch before the trip.
The cape is also quite windy, so you will need a jacket and maybe something to keep the wind out of your ears for best comfort.
We also had an opportunity for a taste of sand boarding on the te paki sand dunes which was fun.
We thought the tour was excellent value. I tended to agree with their motto.. Northland.. best seen from above. Great trip.
