Wildlife Camping Ground

The Waitaki District Council looks after this campsite and for a small fee you can experience the goodness. Please register and pay on arrival - information is on the registration booths.

This is the first campsite along the road to Lake Benmore right along the banks of the Waitaki River. Camp underneath the willows. Heaps of places to call your own. There are excellent toilet facilities here as well as recycling and water.

You can water-ski in the little lake, pick a bunch of delicious fruit, or go for walks over Benmore Dam and to the lookout. There is a safe cycle route into the town of Otematata.

This place is extremely popular with the locals, who camp here for the season.

Awfully packed with longterm campers all over the place, taking up every good space.

Toilet facilites seem fine but 25$ per Night is simply too much for just that.

If you‘re looking for a nice and nature-friendly campsite definitely do not come here!!

    Beautiful setting on the lake.

A bit expensive ($20) for a non powered site, but still a stunning place to stop over for a night or two. Enjoyed the site being dog friendly.
