Fishing german guy hi!
It was nice chatting with you on the campsite (nov 23) I'm the buzz cut gal from Finland. If you happen to see this, I'm Venla Marttila if you wanna find me on facebook :)
The campsite was beautiful, peaceful, quiet and good for (cold) swimming, My dad said it was the best long drop in NZ

Long drop and no running water.
Incredibly scenic and beautiful with the mountains in the background of the lake. But mosquitos were a horror show, so make sure you come prepared with bug spray and mosquito netting. Free.

Fantastic spot with beautiful scenery looking out onto the lake and mountains, absolutely perfect.
5 mins or so of gravel road that was well maintained. Two long drops also both well maintained. Lots of spots for RVs and a few spots for tents/swags. Only reason not 10/10 is because it does get quite windy being right next to the lake so come prepared. Few sand flys but not heaps.

Beautiful spot by the lake, very peaceful and tranquil.
Free campground so that’s always nice. Good long drop. Highly recommend. Bring the mosquito repellent.

Beautiful place, clean toilet, plenty of room, we stayed in tent.
Beautiful place, clean toilet, plenty of room, we stayed in tent. We were lucky enough having quiet and polite people around (considering we’ve been there during school holidays). If you are going on summer, it’s good to have a inflatable boat or a kayak, etc. Can’t wait to come back.

Beautiful simplicity, quiet and peaceful.
Long drops and no facilities to mention, balanced out by wonderful views and no cost. It is a fair drive from the main road (about 25 min), but a good option nonetheless.

Great location with amazing views.
Very cozy place between the trees. Great sunrise and very quiet area. Nice and clean drop loo. Just after 5pm many sunflies...but what can you do? In general great place to stay at!

Really quiet and remote - we were the only ones there which was a bit eerie but ultimately lovely.
Unsealed track past the Lodge. Beautiful views over Lake Ohau and mountains, if you want peace and quiet this is your place.
2 long drops both fairly clean.

Very beautiful BUT the sandflies and the wind are horrific at times.
The camping area is great if you are still willing. Not allowed to camp anywhere else along the lakeside unless you have a selfcontainment sticker, except the other Doc site.

One of our best freedom sites during our trip - but check your arrival time!
It‘s pretty hard to find the way in the darkness.
Heaps of sandflies but so much worth it!
Have a swim in the lake, wake up right next to the waterfront with a beautiful sunrise and the overwhelming view - what else would you need?

An absolutely stunning spot with unspoilt views of Lake Ohau and the mountains beyond.
This is New Zealand at its best. Wild and beautiful. We’re here in winter and no other tourists in sight. Will be back for sure. Best of all it’s free.

The lake is beautiful and the mountains gorgeous.
Not far from the main road. Not much flat area for tents. Sandflies and mosquitos were just tolerable. No water and only a long drop, but for free you can't complain.

Lovely spot just by the lake.
No water supply so bring your own or treat the water from the lake. Sheltered sites under the trees or an open area for vehicles. Pit toilet. Last couple of kms to the campsite are on a gravel road. Lake is good for swimming in late summer.
