Information

Loch Laird Camping Ground

The Waitaki District Council looks after this campsite and for a small fee you can experience the goodness. Please register and pay on arrival - information is on the registration booths.

This is the closest campsite to Benmore Dam right on the Waitaki River. Camp underneath the willows. Heaps of places to call your own. There are excellent toilet facilities here as well as recycling and water.

You can water ski in the little lake, pick a bunch of delicious fruit, or go for walks over Benmore Dam and to the lookout. There is a safe cycle route into the town of Otematata.

This place is extremely popular with the locals, who camp here for the season.

Nice place to spend the night.

Lots of spaces close to the lake/dam. Also lots of trailers (looks like they’re here for long-term camping). Quite pricey ($25 for 2 adults) for what it is. We weren’t wowed, but we didn’t expect much different.

Beautiful spot beside the river which flows from the dam.

We were there in autumn and the colours were magnificent. Trout fishing at your doorstep, the cycle trail is right there too.

A nice enough campsite, was empty when we visited in April.

If you camp down by the lake it's a bit of a hike to the toilets. Excellent Vodafone 3G reception.
