Cliff Top Camping Ground

Omana is a pretty family oriented park situated 40kms southeast of Auckland. The shelly beach at Omana provides safe swimming at high tide, picnic spots and barbecues.
The campsite itself is located on sloping grassy knoll about ten minutes from the park entrance, and offers vehicle accessed camping with basic facilities - toilets and potable water are available.
The park's quirks include tame farmyard animals that cruise the park, befriending holidaying children. Baaaaa...

    Nice sites on the grasses.

There is a gate with a pad lock to reach there. The price is now $16 per night per campervan.

    Beautiful location, great views.

We stayed in winter, so there were hardly any other people staying there. Plenty of joggers in the morning, so if you want some privacy just stay a little further back from the trails. Toilets were as advertised, but the sinks worked as did the faucet and shower. Overall, we can highly recommend this basic campground.

    It's a very nice place.

Quiet, clean and you can park where you want in this large grassy campground .

But it's very difficult to come in. Because there is no Office only online check in is possible. First you need a Smartphone to create an account at the Councils Homepage. Second Step pay with creditcard online. Be sure it is more complicate as online shopping in a Ebayshop. If this procedure is done you get an email with the code of the locked gate. Open the gate and enyoi this nice place. Good luck :-)

    Great place for a getaway.

We had an awesome camp on level ground shaded by a small tree. Toilet was clean and campsite well serviced. Even a cold shower!!!

Generally, I think NZ camp grounds are total BS.

They're like parking lots with grass, and packed in just as tightly too.

That said, it is very likely that I got to the Omana Cliff Top Camping Grounds at just the right time (right after the last of the New Year holidays were over and on a rainy day) but I camped in an empty 3 acre field.

Yup: there's no showers, the booking process is antiquated, and there are only eco-toilets. But there is also space, and trees (young, but trees none-the-less), and did I mention space, and farm animals, and space.

Definitely the right way to end my tiki tour before heading back to normal life in Auckland tomorrow.

Checked in on the 29th dec,was suppose to be a 7night stay but the weather put a damper on the trip so we had to leave early.this is a very nice place, views a great, walks with the family was great too

but the campground itself was OK!hardly any flat area to pitch up slept on a lean for a couple nights, toilets are nice and tidy, may have the odd occasion of it smelly but that's because the lid is up.camp host are very friendly, the drinking water is terrible,I suggest getting your own water especially if you have young children.overall was an ok stay.

This is an Auckland Regional Council park so if you are camping in a number of ARC parks then I recommend you buy the annual pass.

It has a large number of sites and lots of trees. Long drop toilets, fresh water and a campfire area where you can light a fire. Only negative is you can hear some road noise. Some beautiful views from the clifftop walk.

Council run site, $15 per person!!!

Well over priced! Dirty smelly eco toilets, don't forget to take a light if you need the toilet, only stayed as arrived in area late and no other legal choice.

The setting is pretty nice with some easy walkways around the area.

The facilities are DOC-standard except that you have drinking water from a tap. But $13 NZD per person is well overpriced. If you compare that for example to Shakespeare Regional Park than it's not worth the money.

It is a DOC camping ground, $13 per person, more expensive than other DOC camping grounds, only an organic toilet.

Large open park with no specific pitches.

Basic dry toilets and an outside coldwater shower. Some bar-b-que points dotted about. OK for a picnic but little to recommend it as a camspite. There is a walk along clifftop that leads to a Maori Pa (Earth Fort). Was charged 12$ per person which I thought was overpriced.
