Home Bay, Motutapu Island Campsite

This idyllic campsite right by the beach. Explore the island’s walkways, stunning coastline, replanted native bush and ever-increasing wildlife.

Take the ferry to Rangitoto/Motutapu islands and stay at Home Bay, located right on the beach.

Notices

  • Unsafe road on Motutapu Island

    The vehicle road approaching Home Bay Campsite from the south is closed. Extreme weather damage has exposed dangerous high voltage cables. Home Bay campers should use the coastal Motutapu Walkway to access the campsite.

    Visitors to the area should not enter areas with road closed or high voltage signage.

DOC Standard Campsite

Standard campsites have a more limited range of facilities and services than Serviced campsites. These campsites have toilets, a water supply that could be treated or untreated tap water, or from a stream or lake, and vehicle or boat access. Bring your own soap for washing hands. Untreated water should be boiled before use to ensure it's safe. Wood BBQs and fireplaces, cold showers, picnic tables, a cooking shelter and rubbish bins may be provided; this will vary from site to site.

    Arrived after trekking Rangitoto summit, and then traversed East to Motutapu; took the Farmer’s Walkway to Home Bay- Absolutely breathtaking.

    Rallied on to find the campsite absolutely empty. One of the most gorgeous spots I’ve ever seen in my life.
