Beautiful spot, outdoor shower, and nice bathroom.

But as other reviews have said it is a hot spot for some odd locals to come by. Had fireworks go off all night long and guy doing what I assume was meth in the car next to me. Also it’s not clear whether self contained vehicles also have to be in the 6 designated spots so definitely be there early. I got there at 4 and luckily there was one spot left.

Warning: Beautiful spot at the Beach, but you cannot (!) stay there with a self-contained vehicle.

The six spaces are only for NSC.

Best spot I've been to so far.

Very quiet on a Wednesday night and friendly folks. Beautiful views next to the ocean, flush toilets that were open and fully stocked, and generally a quiet spot.

Carpark with amazing view to the sea.

Good flush toilettes with cold showers. For non-self contained you must stay in desginated parking space, which doesnt make sence, but doesnt have a bad affect. All in all amazing campsite.

Absolutely gorgeous spot right on the beach.

Toilet with (cold) outdoor shower close by. You can't beat the location! Grocery store less than 5 min drive away, lots of black sand beach to walk down.

Right next to the ocean and clean toilet and outside shower (cold water only).

This place only has 6 spots though (marked spaces) and only allows non-self contained vehicles. Saturday night they apparently empty the recycling bins there, which woke me up... (not sure if it was real early or real late)

Couldn't be closer to the sea, area seems safe with clean toilets and an outdoor shower.

Not too many cars, so far it's a great place !

Self contained vehicles are allowed to park in any of the NSC car parks.

I confirmed this with the New Plymouth District Council who showed me the relevant part (7.1) in the freedom camping bylaw ( a copy is available on their website)

Currently restricted to 6 SPACES ONLY until end of April 2020.

Great beachside spot with fantastic ocean views, direct beach access and good, clean toilet and outdoor shower. We were the only camper van and could only hear the sound of the waves during the night. There’s nothing else to do close by as far as I know.

Beautiful parking area right by the beach.

One flushing toilet available, which is okay. But be aware that there are six parking lots designated for NON self contained vehicles. A sign says that overnight parking is prohibited in all other lots. So we slept in our self contained van on a NSC space and woke up to a 200$ fine attached to our windshield wipers!! This restriction is absolutely stupid and makes no sense, but now we know better. The previous reviews do not mention this matter so make sure to not camp here overnight if your vehicle is self contained, otherwise you‘ll get fined!!!

Great location right on the beach.

Toilet open 24hrs, outdoor shower, and large lot. There are 6 spots for non-self contained and the rest of the lot is open for self contained. Popular beach for wind and kite surfing.

Not safe at night, have been throwing rubbish on the van.

Locals came at night and make noise. Rangers came and woke us up at 7 am to tell us to park between the yellow lines.

Stayed there a couple times over several months as its nice and directly at the beach but the last time i went there somebody smashed and broke my windscreen at night while i was asleep.

This was not the first time it happened there according to some locals.

Locals go there for quad biking and drinking too

Went to freedom camp with a self-contained camper, and Council has restricted to only non self-contained until 30 April 2020.

Very disappointed as it appears to be a very accommodating area.

Moved up the road from New Plymouth given the lack of view.

This area is lovely. Beach front, grass, toilets and bins provided.

Last night followed directions and couldn't find it.

Today instead of turning left like GPS said we turned right. Went to end of road and followed sign to park. Windy wild night. Not good if weather bad. Probably ok in summer. There were hoons doing wheelies in the grass.
