The standout water experience in this region is the Glacier Explorers boat tour on the Tasman Glacier lake. You take a bus up the Tasman Valley, do a short walk in, and then you're out on a lake surrounded by icebergs calving off NZ's longest glacier. It's genuinely unlike anything else in the country. The glacier is retreating fast, but there's still plenty of chunky ice out there and the scale of the valley around you is something else.
If fishing's your thing, Lake Tekapo is a solid option for trout and salmon in seriously good-looking water. There are guided fishing tours on Tekapo that sort you out with gear and local knowledge, and you can use promo code RANKERS for 10% off. And honestly, the lake itself is so absurdly turquoise that even just being out on it feels like a win, fish or no fish.
