Westshore Beach Reserve Carpark

TEMPORARILY CLOSED

From as early as 2014, Council have received a large number of complaints each year from local residents about people using the site in breach of our Freedom Camping Bylaw. These breaches have caused adverse effects to the resident community and despite our best efforts we have been unable to resolve these issues.

It has now come to a point that Council consider the work involved in monitoring the site and responding to the issues outweighs the value of keeping it open.

Napier has two other freedom beachfront camping sites for self-contained vehicles, at the Pump Track and Perfume Point. A third site on the foreshore reserve is for non self-contained vehicles. These sites are located further away from residential areas and operate well.

Only 4 spots so you have to get there early to get a spot.

No water, lovely views right on the beach

    Absolutely fab spot!

One of our favourites in all of NZ. There are only 4 bays which is really nice as keeps things fairy lowkey. Great vibe to wake up right on the beach.

Would recommend reverse parking into the bay so that you can pop your camper’s back door in the morning and look out onto the ocean.

My partner and I spent my birthday there and couldn’t have hoped for a better place (or company!) - with stunning Art Deco architecture and vineyards just 10 minutes away. Short taxi to main town or can walk 20 mins to a load of bars and restaurants on the harbour front.

    Happy camping!xo

    Great little place.

Large potholes on the road in. Nice and quiet. Toilets clean and nearby. Beautiful view and sunrise. Large open grass area next to it.

Contentious site, locals vigilant about reporting campers (mostly members of NZMCA) who park anywhere on the reserve if the 4 designated camping sites are full.

Clean toilets. We stayed two nights (maximum allowed).

Quiet and somewhat remote location with 7 big vehicle bays on all weather gravel surface, only 2 other vehicles here when we stayed Dec 8th (Perfume Point had 13!)
