Uretiti Beach Campsite
Camp behind the sand dunes of Uretiti Beach, a sandy surf beach.
A very popular campsite behind the sand dunes of Uretiti beach. Heaps to do: surfing, fishing and swimming as well as amazing walks along the beach, or explore the nearby Waipu caves.
It pays to book here over the Christmas/ New years period as the campsite will be full of NZer's. A site here works on a first in first served basis.
There is a small fee to camp here and a few camp ground rules to stick to. There is a nudist section of the beach close by - you just have to make sure you are clothed when you are roaming the campsite....

Uretiti Beach Campsite is categorised as a DOC Standard Campsite. The following pricing indicates usual pricing. Prices vary for some campsites and may include seasonal pricing. Visit the DOC website for exact pricing.
DOC Standard Campsite
Standard campsites have a more limited range of facilities and services than Serviced campsites. These campsites have toilets, a water supply that could be treated or untreated tap water, or from a stream or lake, and vehicle or boat access. Bring your own soap for washing hands. Untreated water should be boiled before use to ensure it's safe. Wood BBQs and fireplaces, cold showers, picnic tables, a cooking shelter and rubbish bins may be provided; this will vary from site to site.

Very nice DOC campground, included on the DOC pass.
The camp is huge, you will be able to find a relatively flat spot. Free cold showers and $2 hot showers available. You can hear a bit the road but not a big issue. Access to a wonderfull beach with great views on the bay. One of the best DOC campground I have done so far.

Vraiment très bien placé par rapport à la plage qui est magnifique.
Le responsable est vraiment très avenant et sympa. En revanche, c'est dommage que la route soit si proche et qui fait du bruit malvenu dans ce cadre idyllique. Mais cela reste un endroit très agréable.

First night after picking up the camper.
We came to Steve without any experience. He was super friendly and helpful. He explained everything to us. There are no fixed spots on the site, so you can choose the one that suits you best. There are plenty of toilets, hot showers for $2. There are several entrances that lead straight to a wonderful, kilometer-long sandy beach. A fantastic start to your camper vacation.

Great stay for the price, check in was easy and simple and a hot shower for 2 dollars was AMAZING.
Also toilets were spotless.

Stayed for 2 nights and our favourite doc so far.
Lots of space but would advise levellers. Clean and unsmelly long drop toilets, cold outdoor showers but does the trick and water. Friendly DOC staff, you can buy ice, and use laundry services. Also there is a place to charge devices but your responsibility! Follow @milly0nthem0ve on IG/YT for all things travel

Beautiful well maintained campsite with con operated hot showers.
The beach is stunning and the grass inside the grounds is good for a tent and bare feet alike. Friendly staff and good location for checking out local beaches and attractions.

Beach is lovely when there is no predators about.
Generators running all day when I was there Informed management management told me that they asked and it was OK for them to do so.
Very much a gay orientated camp Including a daddy's bar 🤮

Great and large location, arrived around 5 pm and then many spots were filled.
Couple of cold showers and few hot showers. Cloase access to the beach.

Beach front campground with beautiful sunrise views over the bay.
Some spots were quite sandy so careful with heavy RV's. Clean toilets and hot showers (1$ for 2 mins). Some road noise from nearby highway.

Plenty of room.
Can almost always find a quiet peaceful spot if you want privacy.
Plenty of fresh drinking water taps. Plenty of cold showers which are free and 3 hot water showers for only $2. Toilets are long drops but very clean, no smells. Absolutely our favourite place.

Huge space, good simple facilities, amazing beach. Can be windy so be prepared for strong breezes. Love it here.

Great beach, great service from the team on the gate and an awesome time here while exploring the far north over summer.
You choose your own spot. They have modern and tidy long drop toilets which are placed throughout the camping grounds. I only noticed 1 shower block which usually had a semi long line.
Water was available for dishes but we were unsure about drinking quality.
Close to Waipu where there are some shops and a short drive to the Waipu Glow Worm Caves which we explored.

Good surf beach will waves making it fun for a exciting swim.
Easy walk from campsite.
Even at full capacity didn’t feel too crowded
No kitchen but a good place to do dishes and showers which were like warm during the day or paid hot showers were also nice.
Showers clean but lots of fly’s at night.
Clean drinking water as well as a good recycle and trash dump.

Lovely and scenic beach campsite.
You can place your van where you want across the area. Hot showers $2/4min. No powered sites, no dumping. Only short walk to the fantastic beach. Ideal for visiting Waipu Caves.

Amazing place.
Sheltered from the wind but a short walk to the most incredible sand-only beach. Coffee place near the entrance that opens at 9 (on weekends) and does real fruit ice cream! We will definitely be back! Also great for bodyboarding in the waves!

Something a little different, a huge area where you can stop and set up wherever you like.
Plenty of clean long drop toilets, fresh water and a minutes walk to the sea across white sands.
Managed by Ray and Cindy, very pleasant hosts. Cost $13 pp a night. We were provided with a rubbish bag and told we could dispose of that and recycled stuff at the exit gate on the way out.
No power but there are hot and cold showers. Very nice.

A beautiful location with tidy but basic facilities (it is a DOC campsite, after all).
No cooking facilities and only cold showers unless you pay for hot. The hosts were lovely and friendly and let us in even though we arrived 15 minutes past office closing hours (at 8:15pm). It was fairly busy for the tail-end of the high season and I expect it is probably packed over summer. A good stopping point halfway between Auckland and the Far North.

Uretiti is a beautiful place!
Arrived just before gates closed at 9pm & staff were more than accommodating & a pleasure to deal with. They even gave us a key for the main gate as we had other family members not arrived yet & still came & made sure we were all ok when they arrived after 1030pm.
The site was packed but still enjoyable! Woke up & went for a walk along the beautiful beach then enjoyed an Awesome swim!
Though toilets were long drops, they were kept clean & always had handwashing refilled. Showers not bad either, they supply hot & cold showers. Only $2 for a 4min hot shower.
Kitchen facilities, they provide a kitchen area to prep. It has island in the middle of the room & benches around it with sink & tap outside to clean dishes.
Taps provided too around the site to wash & clean feet from beach or fill up bottles but wouldn't reccomend drinking from it :)
Great experience & definitely worth the stop!!! Ashamed we couldn't stay longer as we had to head back home but will go back sometime! Thank you

Beautiful campsite near the beach.
Very quiet in the beginning of november. At night it is very dark, so bring a torch. A downside was that there were a lot of mosquitos in the toilet facility. $12 per person with a campervan, plus compulsory $2 for a waste bag. Cold shower is free, hot shower an additional $2.

Huge campsite!
Direct access to the beach. Simple but clean facilities, friendly warden.
Can‘t imagine the campground to be fully booked somewhen...
Recommended for a stop on the way north.

We have stayed at Uretiti many time but never at Easter weekend, Astounded at how full the camp was and how friendly the staff were.
Toilets and showers were serviced 2 -3 times per day and there were no problems in the camp. Another great stay.

Awesome campsite, right next to the beach.
Came on 1 Jan and there were quite a few empty spaces already. No power, but there are hot showers, and very clean long drop toilets. Very friendly reception. It was very quiet at night even though it was quite busy. I think there is a basic kitchen but we didn't use it.
The beach is lovely though unpatrolled and may not be safe for swimming at times.
Would come back.
