Information

Owen River Reserve Camping Ground

A huge recreation area that is managed by a group of local residents. A good place to chill out and use facilities - there are a bunch of activities to do in the area including rafting, kayaking, walking and fishing.

Payment needs to be made at the pub down the road.

Does close for the winter months.

Nice woman in the bar but sketchy and soggy campground, no kitchen facilities.

Price had increased to $12 pp for non-power and $18pp for powered site. Didn’t stay here, went to Murchison motorhome instead. A few dollars more but definately worth it!

Lovely big park $12 per person a night .

Well worth it with showers &toilets . Beautiful river at the moment too cold to have a swim. DON'T FORGET YOUR INSECT SPRAY, as there are plenty of Sand flies here.

It is an open field with the Owen River flowing at the edge of the property.

We were the only ones here! There was a breeze so the sand flies didn’t bother us by the river but you would want bug spray on a calm day. There are flush toilets and showers, a little rough but clean. They have a garbage bin and treated water. We paid $20 for two people, very reasonable. We would definitely stay here again.

Nice grounds, hot showers (luxury!!), some epic swings and real nice mountain views.

Sandflies are bad but they’re bad literally everywhere

During this really busy season we came across this campsite by accident.

Not many people here and really peaceful right beside the Buller river. Plenty of space for our camper, canopy and tent under shady trees.

Have just had a swim - but not too deep as very swift current. Plenty of sandflies but lots of bug spray and they are not so bothersome. Lots of wasps also but not bothering us. They disappeared in the evening. Toilets and showers are really good for the style of camp site. Recommend this spot if you prefer something more basic.

The reviews are right about sandflies - but these are OK if you cover yourself up with Bugspray - they will fly around you but not bother you.

The location is worth it - the campsite is next to a beautiful stream and there are clean and usable facilities for both shower and toilet on site. The site doesn't get at all busy and there are several clumps of trees that offer shade and a spot to hang a hammock. The owners have a lovely, old Pub on the site that has the most friendly cat, cheap beers and both indoor tables and a lovely beer garden. They also serve food but we did not eat here.

Good spot by the river, clean facilities.

The hot showers where really nice! Its true about the sandfly's there really are a lot of them, but if you keep them outside, you will be fine.

Great place if you love beauty and space and convenience.

They’re my main criteria for a great camp. Showers basic but good enough.

Not many sandflies when we went.

    I would go again😊

The least value for money of our whole trip.

Neither of the 2 hot showers worked.

Food and beverages at the pub where you pay were expensive.

Points to note - LOTS of sandflies and wasps. Just be prepared and there is no real problem. Wear a face mask to protect against the sandflies.

Nice covered area you can cook in and prepare a tent if you need to.

Down a gravel drive but gentle slope,

Price has gone up to $10 per night per person, even though signs still say $9 (Feb 2016).

Two shower/toilet capsules, one of which did not have a shower unit at all, and one that had either boiling or freezing water with no in between. Positives - large field and cooling shelter. Negatives - stated above + sandflies.

Beautiful, peaceful, with easy access to the river.

Large open area, free showers, clean flushing toilets and two swings. A good relaxing stop after the excitement of the Buller River!
