It is probably the cheapest you can get but they charge you for every extra.
Still really happy because they were honest and really helpful. All in all a cheap and good company.

Office hours are ridiculous for a major airport and the customer service is horrendous.
Our flight got cancelled from queenstown and we rang the office to inform them of our situation, the person I initially spoke to said that the office usually closes at four but given our situation the would allow “a couple of hours” after. The airline then worked tirelessly to get us into Auckland as early as possible, no small feat considering the amount of flights cancelled. They managed to get us on a flight arriving just after five, we then contacted the office and they backtracked on what was previously said, after pleading with the Auckland office to get them to understand the situation they said that they would be unable to wait an extra few minutes past the usual closing time to allow us to collect our camper. Not only should this not have happened in the first place as you would expect the office hours of a major airport to be longer, the blunt and rude manner in which the staff refused to help really has made me question why we booked with hippie in the first place. If we hadn’t already paid a bond we would be going elsewhere as I am very reluctant to give them any more of my money after their appalling customer service. I would recommend anyone looking to book a campervan to stay clear of this company as it appears that they really do not care about the customer at all. As a result we will be losing a full days worth of our holiday planned due to hippie campers, instead of a few hours due to a cancelled flight. We also had to fork out on accommodation and transport. My experience with hippie campers really has left a sour taste

Office shuts at 4 and doesn't stay open when flights are delayed.
This meant we had to book a hotel and come the following morning. Currently sat in an office with three other groups. We've all been waiting over an hour and are yet to speak to anyone. No staff in sight, the two they have on are both showing people vans and have been for half an hour.
Staff need a talking to, they're way too slow. Bosses need to employ more too. We're going to have lost 20+ hours of holiday at this rate.

BOOKED MONTHS IN ADVANCE WITH INSURANCE.
VEHICLE BROKE DOWN, WEREN’T OFFERED A REPLACEMENT.
We hired a hippie camper from Apollo late last week and within a few days, the clutch went and it broke down requiring towing to a garage.
We should have been given a replacement - we purchased insurance with them after all?! However, we were told they had no replacements at all and couldn’t process this. They said they would refund us for the days we weren’t using the camper. GREAT.
As it’s during Easter, all hotels etc have been booked up by other travellers and so we are now in a position where we find ourselves stranded having to pay over the odds for accommodation just to get by.
During a lot of phone calls, it seemed blatantly apparent that Apollo were trying to get themselves off the hook and trying to get out of the problem - which, being their faulty vehicle, was completely their problem, not mine!
Although they have offered us a slightly better compensation package (again, after numerous phone calls of me stating my complete disapproval of the way they were treating us), it turns out it’s nowhere near enough. We have had to change our trip plans as we can now no longer go to Milford Sound (all accom booked and no campers available from any other companies).
I feel if their vehicles were properly serviced, a nearly shot clutch would have become quite apparent!
We will be claiming the compensation for any further expenses we have to pay for accommodation during our stay in New Zealand. They’ve really let us down and you can tell their customer service operators are trained to try and offer you the smallest compensation packages to try not to offset their own margins. Pretty rank, really...
We’ll be sure to keep you all updated about their response to cover our accommodation expenses. Failing a good response, I’ll be seeking advice from my solicitor.

You have to pay a lot of additional options for cooking gas, sheets, additional driver and heater.
At the end the price is the double.

Do NOT book a Hippie Camper, our budget model is way over the promised max.
5 years. Many things are broken or missing, rust is dripping from the ceiling onto the bed, the mattress is mouldy and so on. The bond is not a bond but they charge it to your credit card and then back again which results in high fees. You even have to pay the fees from the bank from hippie camper. Customer service is horrible. For all issues we had they offered us a 15% discount which is ridiculous as the did breach the contract in many ways. This is not over yet and we are very angry with the kind of service they deliver. The agent wrote us we took over the car in bad shape so its our problem now?
Very dosappointed

TERRIBLE customer service.
WARNING: Do not pay full amount in advance!!!! We had a very unfortunate incident which meant that we were not able to pick up our hippie camper. We gave them two weeks notice of this and asked for a refund, little did we know that somewhere in the terms and conditions it says that if you pay the full amount prior to pickup, then you are not eligible for any refund whatsoever. What rubbish! Surely we were doing the company a favour by paying up front and 6 months advance?! When we emailed one of the staff, we explained what had happened back home to a family member and how we had to terminate our holiday immediately and go home. His reply explained these terms and conditions, and he ended the email 'have a great day'. This person is either completely stupid or just utterly insensitive. There are plenty of other campervan companies to hire from, hire from them instead and avoid what can only be described as abysmal customer service and care. Very upset and disappointed, never received any word of an apology or kind words.

If you are able to send us the name of the staff member you spoke to that would appreciated. They are scamers.
Avoid renting a car from them. My car is in a very poor condition. Serval of things doesn't work (air condition, battery, cooker...). I asked them to replace the car and they told me, they won't replace the car. My entire NZ trip is ruined.
On the phone they are very rude, after a short discussion the guy just told me, that they can't do anything for me and hung up the phone! They even don't answer e-mails.
Thank you Hippie Camper for destroying my holidays!

Hi Jensen
Thanks for your review! Our normal Hippie campers are Mitsubitshi Express vans which are not designed to stand up in- however we have exciting news for NZ and Hippie. As of the 1st of April we will have the Hippie Hitop vehicle which is built on a Toyota Hiace model- you can stand up in the back cabin so keep an eye out for this. Im sorry the added extras were not with the vehicle- that is not a common issue. Apart from that I hope you enjoyed your trip!
