  • Walked in 1998 and Feb 2023 This is a superb walk but track in desperate need of repair and maintenance from Little Wanganui Saddle heading west Care needs to be taken if you are walking this section

    Otherwise good huts great views in good weather and very few people, non to be exact in Feb 2023;we were on our own

  • I walked the Wangapeka in 1972, in sandals, with a bloke I met in the YHA in Nelson.

    We met Cecil the Gold miner.

    I remember the amazing variety of the walking, from scree to tussock. An amazing experience. I cant change the date below!

  • Beautiful, well marked track with great huts.

    $5 per night. Great trout fishing and bird watching. Many (12) Whio (blue ducks) seen.
