Most amazing caravan park we’ve stayed at!

We had a powered site block 39, clean and close to amazing facilities with a great view of the lake and mountains. The staff were lovely and extremely accomodating. Highly recommend. When you stay here you get 10% off the hot pools too that are worth it !

Other than that, internet is crap. Those are the negatives, the positives were the view, location, facilities and friendliness of everyone there

Good place to stay to recharge, dump & shower.

Access to the sites are through a boom gate, you get given the unlock code on payment.

Flat sites in view of the lake, can pay more for a 'Lakes edge' view which just means you don't have anyone in front of you - still 100m or so from the actual water but you are uphill.

The showers are on an 8 minute timer (I really don't get this given access to water is clearly not an issue), but they're clean & well maintained.

Really modern facilities, well equipped, very clean.

They even provide clothes airers as well as washing machine and tumber dryers. Very friendly staff. Good location for the Mt John walk and the springs. Town is a 10-15 minute walk along a good path at the edge of the lake. Recommend sites around number 34 on the top level of the camp, great views across the lake, close to facilities. You do have to walk up and down a very short slope so anyone less able may prefer other site that are on the level with the facilities. And the night sky!!! Oh wow. This place is full of star gazing trips for a reason. Just get your camping chairs out with hot chocolate and look up. We saw the Milky Way, southern cross and more. Highly recommended.

This campsite is at an amazing location.

From almost every spot you have a wonderful view of the lake. Also it’s very central to the Hotsprings, town and the church of the good Shepard.

This is a community style campsite, so be aware that the kitchen can be very crowded around meal time. It’s also a good opportunity to meet people.

Clean amenities, only very weird that the button for hot water is outside the shower so you need to push it when being naked. Bit akward. Very good pressure and temperature.

There are ducks, rabbits and cats on the campsite. Downside were the other camping guests who threw their food waste in front of our van to feed the animals.

I was right up the top, views across the lake to the mountains were awesome but the wind and dust was ferocious!

A small hill climb to get from my site to the facilities but I would do it again.

They very kindly applied a single occupancy rate when I asked- not advertised on the website and very much appreciated.

The bathrooms were modern and clean. 6 minute timer on the shower was a bit rough but I understand, otherwise the shower was great so at least it’s a quality 6 minutes! The kitchen was well set up but not big enough for the demand, even when the campground was at half capacity. I didn’t cook in there as there simply wasn’t space.

WiFi seems to be better compared to previous reviews.

Showers and toilets stink but look nice and are very clean despite the smell. The showers are still 6 mins of hot water then you have to wait 3 minutes before you can get another round of hot water! Although no longer have to expose yourself to press this button - it’s in the little cubicle. Washing is $6 then another $6 to dry… construction is going on at the moment (Jun 24) so don’t expect much peace and quiet throughout the day. The unpowered sites are on muddy patches. All in all $27 (unpowered pp) isn’t too bad for showers, wifi and flushing toilets. I think you pay more for the location and stunning views.

    Large campground with 260 sites.

Sites are small and close together. If you want a view the site depends on your vehicle length - long vehicles might be out of luck. Tekapo is super popular so you will prob need to book.

Facilities are OK but not nearly enough toilets and showers. There's only three blocks, and our nearest was unisex with just three toilets and three showers.

The kitchen isn't big - six cooking stations and just four or five sinks, although there's also an outdoor BBQ area.

Good place to stay if you want to do a night tour at Tekapo springs (highly recommend!

:)) as you can just walk there.

Great views but it’s very pricey for what you get - they surely know that they are the only campsite at the lake.

Not enough facilities for the amount of guests, we had to stand in line to use the toilet in the morning or to wash our dishes after dinner and everything gets dirty real quickly as so many people use it.

The showers have a timer and a two minute break before you can get hot water again which is really annoying if you want to wash your long hair.

The sites are really close together and from a lot of them it’s a really long walk to the toilets (longest we ever had at a campsite).

All in all an average and overpriced campsite, you pay for the location.

The staff were friendly and fitted us in to what seems to be an overspill terrace on the left before the main campsite.

If I had seen it before paying I would have gone elsewhere. There is barely any grass left on the pitches in November (so it will be a complete dustbowl by summer)and a dirt road through the middle so the minute anyone moves or the wind blows there are clouds of dust. Add the highway above the site into the mix and you have a recipe for a bad stay. My van is full of dust and I am leaving asap. The facilities and the view are good but cannot be enjoyed because of the actual site.

Expensive for what it is (prob the most we’ve paid for unpowered site).

Not enough facilities for the amount of spaces available (only place so far I’ve queued 10 mins for the toilet), Wi-Fi patchy. Was clean, and well maintained, but money for what you get felt a bit like being taken advantage as there’s so little places to stay in Tekapo.

    Definitely not worth the money.

The wifi is totally bad (if it works at all), there are not enough showers, the kitchen is far too small for so many guests and basically there is nothing to justify the very high price. Limiting the showers to 6 minutes is also outrageous. If you have to wash long hair it easily takes you longer and then you stand in the cold for minutes before there is hot water again. The operators want to earn as much money as possible without offering a corresponding service. Not recommended.

We had a powered site and they are very small and right next to your neighbours. Facilities are modern and clean - showers are a bit annoying on a timer that’s outside the stall door so you have to come out naked and wet to push the button for 6 minutes at a time - weird design. Friendly staff but was surprised at how fast they drove around the campground - absolutely ripping through despite lots of little kids around. Bonus is the proximity to the hotsprings - 2 minute walk and also a short walk to the town. Overall a nice spot but not sure I’d stay again.

The Wi-Fi always disconnected, signal very weak. Stair should be install between higher and lower site, it’s not safe walking down the slope if you want to take a shower at night! And you also need to press the button outside the bathroom in order to have hot water, which is not mentioned.

His park is right at the head of lake Tekapo and is in a beautiful location.

The facilities are immaculate but the 8 rating is due to the fact I believe the park is so large it has out grown the current facilities. The kitchen was overrun as well as bathrooms and showers and the park was not even full. You park in gravel “stalls” like cattle and to me this in not camping. Town is a short walk and there are lots of activities in the area. The camp site we were in was barely deep enough for our 7.4 meter Campervan. In addition it was the most expensive site we’ve visited in 6 weeks on the road. $120.00 for powered site with 4 adults.

To stay so close to the pools and the lake justifies the price for sure.

It’s clean, up to date and a bit unpersonal.

    But expect a busy campground!

They are obviously trying to squeeze as many pitches out of their land as possible...

I felt squeezed between the campers in my small tent. Also in the kitchen: if the campsite is fully booked, you’ll have to wait for a free cooking space for sure.
