Great spot but would have to come early as it fills up quickly.
Very clean toilets and selection of food & drink close by. Nothing to see view wise but really good quiet location even though its near the road.

Good clean public toilets, open all night.
Plenty of spaces and quiet enough on a Sunday night. Close to amenities and the Whaler pub was a highlight, worth a look for a solo traveller.

Many spots, toilets were clean.
No real good view however you’re just 1 minute walk away from the beach, and perfectly located in the center of Kaikoura, really convenient! The road was a bit loud at night but nothing problematic. Generous rule of leaving by 8:30am which is much better than the other spots in town.

Really nice place to park up as it’s on the main strip of the town.
Pub near by has free WiFi too. Lovely spot on the beach next to the car park for sunrise and set. Toilets were clean, well lit and flushing. I suspect in high season it would be hard to get a spot though but if you are worried about this. It’s only 1 dollar per hour to park your van in the camping spot before 5:30pm so you can confirm your spot early (free camping only permitted outside of 5:30pm-8:30am)

Fills up way too soon.
I would rather take the one east further down the Peninsula. Same amount of spots bit more quiet spot.
But close to toilet, the beach, city and amenities.
Oh, you have to pay for parking from 08.30-17.30. After that you can freedom camp on 6 spots.

Nice parking lot in middle of town.
If you stay after 08:30 you need to pay (1 dollar per hour). The come and check around 19:00 and tell you this. We arrived at 17:00, still 5/6 places left and came back from the beach at 18:00 to find it full. Half november 23

What a great lcoation.
Right in the heart of the town centre. An easy walk to local shops & eateries. Well lit-up and clean toilets with rubbish/recycling bins nearby. Parking is 5.30pm to 8am daily. We arrived 5.15pm on a Saturday night and there were still several parking spaces available. We would park here again.

It’s such a perfect spot!
Right by the public toilets and the main town area! There are limited amount of spaces but at it was quiet this time of the year (May), there were maybe around 5 other vehicles with us! 100% recommend this car park. Only downside is because it’s a car park you have to be out by 8:30am as the times you have to pay are between 5:30pm-8:30am!

Next to public toilets. Not loads of spaces and filled up quick. Remember to pay if you are there between 8 and 5.

Right on the main shopping and bar/restaurant road.
Nice amount of well marked spaces, that are free between the hours of 5:30pm and 8:30am. No views, but public toilets are at one end of the lot, and there is a little bridge over the river to the beach there as well.

Good location, not noisy at all!
Everything is nearby. Also if needed, there was a recycling station and public toilets. Kaikoura is one of the best spots in my opinion.

Stayed here on my first night of my road trip, felt very safe as a solo female traveller as it’s in the middle of town.
I was one of two vans here on the night I stayed. Some road noise but nothing too major and clean toilets nearby. 2 minute walk to the beach to see the sunrise.

Carpark just outside the local iSite.
Free after 5:30pm for self contained for 1 night, clean toilets at the edge of the carpark. Excellent coffee across the road at Bean Me Up. We were there in autumn school holidays (also when borders were closed) and were the only campervan there.

Good spot in a central location, good toilet facilities nearby as other commenters have mentioned.
Was full at about 5pm when we were there (mid summer) so get in early during summer months! Had someone come check on us that evening to check we were self contained and she said they do the rounds of all the local spots

Limited spots in this car park, but right next to 24/7 bathrooms, in town so its easy to walk to any food or drink place.
Next to a river and a short walk to the beach. Quite and clean with no problems for us.

Just a public carpark that you can freedom camp in overnight.
Free from 5:30pm-8:30am, outside of these times it’s $1 an hour. Public toilet nearby and you’re in the centre of town. Local council check your vehicle most nights.
