My last Kaikoura pick

My last Kaikoura pick

Compared with other Camping gems around Kaikoura, Scarborough St has the least vibe.
Location of the rubbish dump to the south is unfortunate. I'd avoid if it's blowing a southerly wind.
The Cemetery / Urupā to the north was fine for me, but maybe less fine for others.
It's generally the last place to fill up close to town.
Being less busy means you'll likely have more space. And it's a flat piece of solid ground.
Large Campervans / Motorhomes are all good here.
Portaloo toilet.

  • I'm rating this a 9 even though it's basically just a dirt parking lot, the reason being there's plenty of space compared to the other two small areas near the beach which fill up early.

It's across the street from a cemetery which can be a plus for those into something a little spooky.

  • Einfach ein etwas größerer Schotterplatz nicht besonders schön aber erfüllt seinen Zweck.

  • It's pretty basic camp ground.

Has clean port a loo. The view of the mountains is nice. Would give it a better rating if it felt a bit more special. Otherwise perfect spot if you just need to sleep, go toilet then get back on the road the next day. Also it's close to town as well.

  • It's right next to the rubbish dump, so pretty smelly when the wind blows the wrong way and the local hoons were pretty obnoxious, we got woken up at 1am.

Also the portaloos are almost full. On the plus side, you can walk into town and the tent pegs go into the ground okay... if you really want to camp in central Kaikoura and don't want to pay $50 per night then go for it, but we'll be going up the coast for the rest of our time here!
