South Island ▷ Marlborough ▷
Honestly, art and culture isn't the main reason people come to Marlborough, and I won't pretend otherwise. But there is one place that genuinely surprised me: the Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre in Blenheim. Rare WW1 and WW2 aircraft displayed with real flair, not just parked in a shed. It's on the pricier side, but if aviation history is your thing at all, it's worth every cent. Throw in the promo code RANKERS to take a bit of the sting out.
Promo code RANKERS - good deal done!
The wine region itself is its own kind of cultural experience. Marlborough produces around 70% of NZ's grapes, so understanding that country, its rhythms and its people, is genuinely part of being here. A guided wine tour with someone who actually makes the stuff is about as close as you'll get to living insight into the region. Again, promo code RANKERS works here too, which is handy. The farmers market in Blenheim is small but it's doing its bit to keep local food culture alive if you happen to be around on market day.
