Amazing free camping spot Newly painted flush toilet stalls and cold running water Next to a park with several places to park - likely room for 8-10 vans!
Worth the drive from the highway between Arthurs Pass and Christchurch! Signed - a 60 yo Couple from Canada in a small sleeper van 😀

Pretty nice little free spot.
Flushing toilets are clean, and a cold faucet and kitchen table are available outside. If you're staying for a while or plan on staying you can also call city council for access to a legit kitchen with stove and hot water. Don't know the cost of this.
When I stayed some dog trainers came in the morning but they weren't annoying and my mate loved the dogs.

Stayed here for a single night and there were only 3 others.
Toilets were very clean and of the flushing kind. There is also a sink to do the washing up. Very quiet overnight. Some locals arrived in the morning to walk the dogs and offered us some lemons! Very nice place to freedom camp in a hired self contained campervan

Plenty of room to spread out and enough people around to feel safe. Toilets are great (very clean and flushing!)
A huge amount of land and open domain to relax or get the frisby out. Great spot for a stop over on the way to Kaikoura

Great spot overall.
There's a good old-school male / female toilet block with a self-closing door and automatic sensor light, an outside sink with a great tap (cold water only), 3 x picnic tables by the sink in a semi-enclosed communal setting, no showers, 2 x rubbish bins.
A bit of road noise, but really most of the noise is from the in and out of the cars for people bringing their dogs for a walk or, if you're unlucky, the local tractor mower. The inconsiderate bloke rolled in and started mowing the domain at 0750 while a few of us were still asleep (cheers mate...). Oh, and the fire station siren is fairly close too, which you definitely hear.
Talking with a regular stayer, there's no limit to how long you can stay. Just make sure you're vehicle(s) remains compliant with WOF, rego, RUCs, etc etc.
Oxford township is 15 minutes up the road with a small supermarket, cafes, service station and a takeaway, plus other services.

No where does it say length of stay.
Neighbouring areas can range from 2 to 28 days. Locals said there was no limit. One local complaint had a very rude council worker asking me to move along. Saying my vehicle was not registered. I pointed out the year and that it was registered and held my temper. One more local complaint he said and the police would be dealing with me. Where is it written anywhere about the length of stay for this place??? With locals saying there isn't one it should be more clear.

Such a gem of a find!
We stayed two nights in this gorgeous quiet place with great facilities. A short bike ride to Route 72 Cafe & Emporium where we found friendly staff, outstanding food and coffee, and a treasure trove of clothes, art, and gifts. Would absolutely stay here again. Thank you, people of Cust. It's been a real pleasure. Definitely a 10/10!

Wonderful freedom campsite.
very quiet, green and clean spot! Good facilities, drinking water and even a sink where you can wash your dishes! If it's raining you have a shelter for cooking. I don't know if the number of vehicles is limited for I saw no sign but there is plenty of space for 7-10 vehicles.
There were no sandflies around!
