Information

Te Kopua Whanau Camping Ground

A very basic camping ground for $10 per person, per night. Situated away from the surf at Ocean Beach. A great place to watch a west coast sunset.

This campground was once known as Riria Kereopa Memorial Drive Camping.

They now have a check-in and booking system at the front gate, similar to the system that DOC uses where you fill-out a form and drop it in the box provided.

Beware of walking on the airfield in the dark - we got approached by a suspicious man by the raglan tourist park, seemed like he was looking for people walking back to this campsite, as he named it.

Good campsite with toilets and showers ($1 for 3 min)

Basic campground about 5 min from town and 5 min from manu bay surf spot.

Check in lady was very nice. Bring cash as my visa did not work. $15 pp for camper with power during Xmas holiday. All good except for noisy campers at about 0300 arguing.

Basic campground - it was nice and quiet, next to the beach and 5 minute drive in to town.

It’s $10 pp then $5 surcharge, I think it’s expensive for what it is as the toilets aren’t the cleanest, no hand soap or paper towels and some of the locks were broken. $1 for 3 minutes in the shower, not very clean but hot and good water pressure. There was a good amount of bins provided for rubbish and recycling. Overall good option as there is no freedom camping in Raglan.

Decent price, usual campsite facilities, self check in so can arrive whenever, town is walkable (40 mins but nice along the beach) (otherwise, short drive), quiet guests are encouraged

Lots of spaces when we arrived mid afternoon on a Monday.

Very basic, the only shade was taken by permanent campers but it wasn't a problem during my stay.

Clean bathrooms and powerful showers but take a torch after dark. Interesting check-in procedure where you fill out a form, put the form in with a token and cash if you have it ($5 per campsite then $10pp) or you can come back when the office is manned to pay by card. Lovely lady working there and close to town

Cheapest place around seeing as you can’t freedom camp in Raglan.

Costs $10 per person per night plus a $5 site fee per night, which was a bit expensive considering what it was. Very basic, just a field, a toilet and some bins. Bathrooms didn’t get cleaned during the time we were there (2 nights) and the showers are $1 for 3 minutes of hot water, which is over priced in my opinion. Nice to see a variety of bins available for different kinds of rubbish. Nice spot, 5 mins drive from the nearest surfing beach. Would go again but only because it’s the cheapest option

Very good location , close to town and walking distance to the beach .

Very easy check in , plenty of space but a little bit noisy.

The down side is the cleaning . The bathroom is disgusting. I stayed there 3 nights and it did not seem that it has been cleaned at all during this time .

A flat site with toilet and shower block, rubbish disposal including all kinds of recycling.

There was a new toilet block too. An easy check in system and only $10 per night. No alcohol camp. The only down side was the sites near the road were noisy as the traffic was very close and fast. Super friendly and helpful hosts. A short walk across to town through the airfield which was an experience in itself! Would definitely camp here again

Really easy check in and a beautiful spot with a walk throw a meadow and along the beach to get into town.

Toilets were really gross, they have showers which you pay for hot water but they were too dirty so we didnt use them. Beautiful spot otherwise

Stunning place to stay even in the middle of winter.

I ended up staying for 4 nights during Raglan’s summer peak.

The owners were sweet and helpful and made sure everyone who needed a place to sleep got in. One can walk along the beach into town, and sweet sunsets. The facilities were basic, bathrooms were out of soap, hot showers for $1 or cold for free, but I would stay again!

Flat grassy lot with a toilet/shower block on it.

Nothing more nothing less. Some friendly permanent campers. Self check-in like a DOC site but with numbered spots. Toilet block could use a ckean, don't understand why people need to leave a mess for others. Didn't spot any rats as mentioned. Lots of pokekes tho.

Plenty of room. Close to the beach. Only thing was there were a lot of rats around.

    Two of us camped overnight.

Price was good. Good company, and full with orderly and co-operating campers. Experience was spoilt by overloaded sewer from toilet block so that toilets were not flushing. I reported this to the staff in the hut on the gate. I recommend that the sewer be upgraded or not so many campers be allowed to stay.

Great place to stay, 20 mins easy stroll across the paddock and air strip to town.

$10 per night per person, easy site check in when unmanned via the pay in envelope and site number tag system. Operators are around late afternoon around 5pm to assign additional sites. Cold and $1 coin hot showers. Tidy facilities, no kitchen. Similar to our DOC run sites.

    A great place to camp.

Toilets and showers leave a little to be desired but for $10 a night it didn't matter. Great spot next to the beach.

Not far to Raglan and the surf beaches. Huge site was completely booked out for the Easter weekend. Can pay by cash or card. The booth is occupied twice daily and there is a number to text if there is no one there. In response to some of the other reviews left. You can't judge a site on the weather you experienced! I think the site is ran by the marae so take that into account when you stay.

In terms of value for money (other than free!) $10 a night is pretty good.

Close to town and raglans great surf spots. Basically a field with about 45 parking spots (no power) with flushing toilets, free cold and $1 hot showers (mechanism was broken when I was there so it was FREE hot showers!) Just up the road is the river mouth where you can watch the sunset and chill out. Friendly owner who is there taking payment till 5pm after which you pay by money in envelope. YOU WILL BE CHECKED so don't try be sneaky. I was happy to stay two nights and would stay again.
