Information

Moonlight Track

Walking time: 4 - 5hrs one way, Mountain biking time: 3-5hrs loop track (38km)

This track can be walked as well as mountain biked.

If you are walking it is worth organising a shuttle or organise a pick-up at the other end. The narrow but well defined Moonlight Track starts at Arthurs Point and eventually follows the historic route into the Moonlight goldfields and the old goldmining settlement of Sefferstown. The track then continues down to Moke Lake where there is a DoC campsite. There are a few changes you can make with this walk; for a bit of added excitement you can also catch the gondola up and walk to the Ben Lomond Saddle, from here you can drop down and walk to either Arthurs Point or to Moke Lake.

If you are mountain biking you can either ride the whole loop from Queenstown up to Arthurs Point, following the Moonlight Track then back to Queenstown via Moke Lake. Or you can organise a shuttle to drop you off/pick you up.

You need to be an intermediate rider with reasonable skill and fitness. About 90% of the track is rideable, a few rugged sections on the Arthurs Point half of the ride.

We walked in from Arthur’s point about 5km and turned and walked back.

Great walk with awesome views. Enough uphill to get a bit of a puff on but not too difficult. Well worth doing😊
