Lovely secluded pitches. Powered sites were already full when we got there, but loads of unpowered. WiFi was good. Kitchen a bit small and basic but a great spot.

Great value for money, great place.
The layout was lovely for feeling like you have a bit of privacy with each site tucked in amongst the greenery. Some sites had awesome views of the mountains- choose carefully! Lovely friendly staff and a chill vibe. Non powered sites aren’t allocated so bear in mind that if you leave and come back, your favourite spot might have been taken.
Showers were unreal- better than mine at home! Not many of them though; wasn’t an issue for me but I imagine this might be a choke point when it is busier.
Lots of mozzies near the “lake”- would recommend picking a spot not near there…

My stay at Orange Sheep was the best on my holidays!
The grounds were beautifully maintained, with stunning native bush which added to the scenic beauty of the place. Each spot is surrounded by native bush and gives such a private feeling to your experience!
The new owner, Elliot, was welcoming, friendly, and incredibly helpful throughout my stay.
Elliot went above and beyond for me! From helping me with tour bookings to sharing local walking trails, his knowledge and passion for the area really made my experience. I had troubles in securing a booking for the hot pools next door and Elliot stepped in and made it happen 👌😎
The facilities were clean, the atmosphere relaxed, and the overall ambiance was inviting. Orange Sheep was the perfect base for exploring the stunning Franz Josef area.
I highly recommend Orange Sheep Campervan Park to fellow travelers. Elliot’s exceptional hospitality and the overall quality of the facilities made my stay memorable, and I can’t wait to return.

Great spot.
All the sites felt really private with little hedges around and many with benches. Wifi included and could access from the van. Good hot showers. Only negative was it was advertised as $15 per person, but the guy doing the registration and payment seemed to pick the price when people arrived. Charged us $16 per person, but others paid $15, $17…a bit of a mixture!

Cheap price, but crowded, even off season.
Bathroom and shower facilities were limited. Private niche for campsites including tables/benches which is nice. The outside kitchen/ dish sinks/ cold water sinks were esthetically pleasing, but hard to use in the dark or when the weather is bad. Overall not as cosy as I had hoped, but still better than the same price DOC campsites.

Very crowded and disorganised site- hard to find a spot.
Not enough facilities - we weren’t able to use the kitchen at 5 or 7pm as they were both busy (both outside too so you get eaten alive by sandflies and mozzies).
Very expensive for what it was - we paid $36 for 1 night powered.
Toilets were dirty and sinks in areas stank and were full of stagnant water.
Sorry but would recommend the other campsites in town any day as you pay a little more but get HEAPS more in value.
This was overpriced for what it offers which, beyond the location, isn’t much.

HI Taylor
It is great you found the site "beautiful". Just to confirm we offer HOT showers for all guests, can you please email us with the issue you found, I am not aware of any problems (hot water is reliant on electricity so if we suffer a power cut it won't work).
Our price including hot showers is $15 per person, as long as you are two or more people in a van, if you are only one person the price is $15 if you are staying two or more nights or $20 if you are only staying one night.

Many very private spots in shrubbery nooks, with beautiful mountain backdrop. Don't need reservations. Hot showers and bathrooms were nice, didn't see a kitchen but there are outdoor sinks for doing dishes. I got the WiFi to work fine, and some hikes and restaurants are easy walking distance. Absolutely loved my stay here!
$15 a night is a fantastic deal for getting almost secluded camping spots, most of which come with a picnic table right next to them, the toilets/bathrooms were spacious and very clean, so were the showers. Cash payment preferred, some of the roads and spots were pretty narrow so a lot of the campervans struggled to park. There's several outdoor sinks, some with hot water from the tap, and the water is drinkable. Would absolutely recommend and stay again.

Wow, some of those comments!
This place was one of the best we stayed at and not even the most expensive. The place is a maze? They created green units so you have some privacy and the way to the facilities is signed and lightened. The place was fully booked and we still felt like we were there alone. The kitchen small? Okey, it is not big but wait your turn, there is a shelter to be dry and the barbecue is shared but clean... We have been backpacking and paid more to be on a grass area without showers and longdrops only. They have plenty of HOT showers on this campground (some in front are even 1 person cabins!). Very friendly and hardworking owner, who ran around doing a lot of work while we were there. Only respect!

I am sorry you did not enjoy your stay. But happy to hear you enjoyed our hot showers. We have seen the problems landfills create first hand (google fox landfill) and so try to encourage as much as possible to be reused and recycled. Unfortunately in the town over the summer peak the wifi will be slow everywhere as everyone is uploading videos of their amazing adventures etc and the towns exchange struggles. We are the same price as the local DOC site, where you don't have any wifi, kitchen or hot showers and can't drink the water etc so I am a little surprised by your rating. We always encourage guests to explore our large site before checking in and they are welcome to check the wifi as part of this.

Well priced at $15pppn.
Friendly host, bit annoying that you had to walk around the whole site to pick a spot before being allowed to drive the van in, just assign them! WiFi across the whole site was a welcome plus. Site is a bit of a maze so the toilets and showers were a bit far away if you didn’t get one of the prize spots. Kitchen was small but looked good. Showers and toilets very clean! bizarre that there were zero bins on site, had to walk down the road or drive to the supermarket to get rid of rubbish? Owner did explain that it was due to recycling being contaminated but still has to be expected that people will produce some amount of trash which should be catered for.

Hi E & P
It is great to hear you found us friendly, and the showers and toilets "very clean", as we want to give guests maximum flexibility we let people choose their own site, every site we have is different as we left as much forest on the site as possible. As you say the site is like a maze (this gives privacy) and so we now encourage guests to walk and choose their site first as people driving around all day looking for the "best" site disturbs other guests. We really want to protect our beautiful part of NZ, and so we all need minimise what goes to landfill and recycle everything possible. Hopefully you noticed that we have two places for cooking.
