Called for a last minute powered campsite in the winter time and the owners were super nice and accommodating.
The campsite is right on a river and feels tucked away in nature. Nice facilities although you need coins to operate the shower. Good wifi too!

First campsite on the way from Auckland.
Thames is a charming little town that is a must visit!
The campsite itself was in a great location setback from the road and 5 minutes from the sea giving you both the seclusion and vibes.
Great facilities from the kitchen to the bathrooms but is important to note the showers are coin operated.

This was a nice place to stay the night.
Owners were really lovely and accommodating when someone else was already in our campsite. Some of the facilities could be updated but nothing urgent, still fine. Free wifi was a nice touch, wasn’t expecting it. Campsites maybe slightly on the smaller size but there is still plenty of space in front and no set lines to stay in.

Our camper broke down outside of Thames (alternator died!
) and we were so lucky to be able to stay here for 2 nights till the mechanic could take us. The owners are so kind and lent us a cable/charger to charge up the battery enough to be able to be driven into the mechanics in Thames. Facilities are clean and functional, maybe a bit dated but not a problem if you're not fussy. Coin operated hot showers ($1 for 5 mins of hot water), 20pp per night for an unpowered site. Very grateful and couldn't ask for a better place to have mechanical troubles. We noted that the park was up for sale so may come under new management in the future?

First time writing a review in 3 months of travelling and using campervan parks.
Firstly $30 for one person on an unpowered site is criminal. I actually couldn’t believe it, maybe my fault and should of questioned it there and then.
Secondly dirty facilities like kitchen ( dead bugs) hair on the sides and floor, dirty floor. The bathroom was ok. Showers pretty grotty.
Thirdly wifi didn’t work. I know this can be hard in NZ but going back to paying $30 for an unpowered site, I personally think should be unlimited and accessible.
Must say owners pretty chilled and welcoming. But that’s all I’ve got to say

Lovely spot to camp next to the creek.
Unfortunately they over charged us and when we asked them about it they got very rude and insulting about it saying we had made up a website and booking confirmation fabricating prices and they wouldnt discount our rate or give any money back as "it was already cheap as chips" we wernt after any discount. We just wanted to pay what we had been told the prices were. Very unfortunate as was a lovely spot. We cut our stay from 4 days to 2 because of how they acted and went to Miranda

We stayed on a non-powered site.
There was a good amount of allocated space surrounded by vines which was a nice touch (not all sites were like this). Hot showers were $1 for 5 min. Toilet facilities were satisfactory. Noise from others music was minimal. A nice family area. Cost us $20 pp.

Beautiful and secluded, nestled in the forest!
Simple camp ground, relatively level spaces. $40 for 2 people for a powered site. Clean showers coin operated. Lovingly maintained kitchen facilities. Free 300mb Wifi included. Would definitely recommend and stay again! 9/10 stars as buildings were a little dated and would have loved free hot showers.

Thank you for your positive comments. Showers are coin operated as it stops people from spending a long time in the showers, and other people waiting :)

I just popped in for a night a few days ago.
The camp ground was super peaceful, and mostly empty (New Year holidays just ended here), and they were good enough to not put me right next to other campers but tried to maximize space for everyone instead.
They also get extra double bonus points for the clear effort they put in to recycling and vermicomposting.

Nice site split over different levels with good facilities.
The kitchen was very well equipped, probably the best we found anywhere in NZ, and the toilets were very clean. There are play facilities for children and a good small swimming pool. If it is raining there is also an indoor lounge (but notice said it was for adults only) and a games room with table football, table tennis, air hockey, etc. Also a mini golf course although it had a lot of leaves and small branches from the trees on it so we didn't play. Shop didn't have a huge selection but ok for essentials and the campsite is not too far from the town which has plenty of facilities. A good stop to head for if you are going from Auckland further into the Coromandel.

Hi Neil, thanks for your review. It all helps as we are new owners and have "inherited" a lot of things that we want to improve. We will look at the sign in the TV/reading room that you are referring to. The mini golf course is swept regularly but we will keep a closer eye on it.

Loved this oasis!
In the middle of thick rainforest trails (do the 3 hour Tinker's Gully if you like an adventurous walk up steep inclines and over streams - we loved it). Sweet bathrooms and kitchen among the rainforest. This was our first experience of camping in NZ and we loved it. I actually thought we'd found paradise, until I realised that the rest of NZ's rural areas are simply blissful!
Stay here as a great starting point for exploring the Coromandel Peninsula.
We can also verify that Cindy is very friendly! Stay here!!

This is a really good place to start the trip, close enough to Auckland to get to after picking up the van.
Lush green lawns, the park is a bit old fashioned but there's real charm in that: everything was perfectly good, showers and loos, kitchen and campsite. We loved the friendly resident black cat, she was much friendlier than the grumpy owner/manger who obviously doesn't enjoy his job in this little slice of heaven. A great spot to start the trip, just don't expect any help from the owner if you arrive after dusk.

Butterfly House is separate to this Holiday Park even though it is made out to be part of it.
Washing machines worked well but were overprices compared to other establishments stayed at.
General store was very expensive also and understocked.
Facilities are very old and need updating.
But very nice people running park and was not a bad place to stay our first night in New Zealand.

Beautiful campsite with everything (pool, entertainment room, mini golf, playground,...) you need and more...
but...
It has had it best time about 20 years ago. It looks like nothing has been replaced since then. The price setting is still the one for the luxury camping it has been in the past. For now it is up to 50% overpriced.
Use of washing machines was with 4$ double the price of other similar campsites on the Northern Island.
Hopefully the owner will restore this campsite to its original state. In that case, the price will be fair, and the setting will make it deserve a 10.

A very attractive small site on a slope but with mostly level pitches.
Facilities old but clean including a small free swimming pool divided into a children's and adult section. Very welcome on a hot day!
The Butterfly Park on the site is quite independent with good butterflies and few orchids. Around 11$ adult entry is probably rather expensive for limited educational value.
