Whangapoua Campsite

Located on the edge of Whangapoua estuary, this campsite is close to a popular surf break.

The Whangapoua Camping Ground is set in farmland overlooking the Whangapoua estury and a popular surf beach. Great views.

An adventurers campsite, open to the elements and not hemmed it. On its day and into the sunset, it has the goods to be memorable.

There are rare nesting birds about during the summer, please keep your distance.

  • No fireworks or sparklers on public conservation land including Hauraki Gulf Islands

    These items increase the risk of wildfires, which can have a devastating impact on native ecosystems, huts, tracks and heritage sites.

    Fireworks can disturb and harm native wildlife, particularly nesting birds.

DOC Standard Campsite

Standard campsites have a more limited range of facilities and services than Serviced campsites. These campsites have toilets, a water supply that could be treated or untreated tap water, or from a stream or lake, and vehicle or boat access. Bring your own soap for washing hands. Untreated water should be boiled before use to ensure it's safe. Wood BBQs and fireplaces, cold showers, picnic tables, a cooking shelter and rubbish bins may be provided; this will vary from site to site.

    An open, out there, location close to the airstrip, on a tidal lagoon.

    It would also have to be one of the epic island surf breaks in NZ when it's on.

    Nice warm swimming in the lagoon when the time comes in. Great sunsets. Big sky.
