Author And Researcher
I'm Marios, delivering the best of Aotearoa's nature walks to your device.
I've personally walked hundreds of New Zealand's tracks and spent months in libraries uncovering interesting information on New Zealand/Aotearoa. And you'll find a slice of that research on this page - enjoy!
6 km return | 2 hours 30 minutes return
The 50 metre falls are the highlight of this pleasant walk through regenerating bush. Little evidence now exists of the kauri logging, gum digging and gold mining that once took place in the area.
2.5km south of Whangamata along S.H. 25, just past the golf course, turn right along the Wentworth Valley Road. The track starts from the roadend.
Wide, metalled and marked, the path climbs steadily. Stepping-stones help on both the stream crossings. Near the falls, a metalled path to the right leads to a viewing platform. To reach the bottom of the falls and the swimming hole requires careful negotiation of a steep track that descends from the other side of the platform. The main track continues to the top of the falls.
There are toilet facilities at the campground near the roadend carpark.
