I just really don’t understand why these sites cost 10 per person.
In my opinion overpriced. There are free sites with a longdrop that are better then this. This place is not more than a secluded mowed meadow.

Was only there for one night on the way to Dunedin.
Good open area. The toilets were clean and there was a sheltered area for cooking. Easy to find as well. Google maps got us there correctly and there are small yellow markers on road as well. No drinking water, though the tap water can be boiled before drinking. The river is only a 5 min walk from the site. No cellphone signal.

We just stayed the one night heading to ChCh but will be back again just to enjoy the peaceful area.

Great little spot.
Unfortunately it was bucketing down and there was flash flooding while we there. We walked to the river the following morning and the water level was quite high and lots of damage to the banks. Half of this campsite was cordoned off for Maori groups? Didn't understand why. Only one campervan there. Three long drops. Taps outside plus a covered sink for washing dishes. Lots of mosquitoes so wear repellent if you're a magnet like I am! Lovely to spy on rabbits hopping around the next morning. Very peaceful there 😀

Great wee campsite , lots of bird song and no road noise as its located in a basin area.
Basic facilities but clean and working. Water available but you'll need to boil before consuming. Only 2 other campers were there while we were here , very peaceful. Not far from the main road too - would recommend.

Unfortunately we had a terrible experience, local young people arrived to nearby clearings very late (Saturday night) and partied loudly all night and left a huge amount of broken bottles and litter in
the morning, no DOC or any other rangers monitor this site so it didn’t feel very safe. The site itself was waterlogged and full of tyre tracks from idiots and currently the river has signs for toxic algae, so no swimming. Nearby is a camp called riverside haven holiday park we stayed at the next night, was only 12pp (this doc site is 8pp), and one of the best I’ve been to for years.

A beautiful and tranquil small camping area surrounded by native forest.
The area is lush and green with fantails swooping about and tui singing in the trees. 1.5km from SH1 and in a deep valley so no traffic noise. There were approx 15 vans and a few tents camped there I night I was there. Everyone was nicely spread out around the perimeter of the clearing so you didn't feel crowded out at all. The facilities are minimal but adequate - 3 unisex toilets and a wash basin. However, despite only being $8 for this beautiful campsite I didn't see any of the other campers register and pay the $8 fee.
I will certainly return to this beautiful spot.

Great spot with amazing river swimming.
Very gusty winds channel down and through campsite and we watched many peoples gazebos fly away! Water is rain collection and needs boiling before use. First campground with Tui in the trees above our site!!! Definitely returning!
