Welcome to New Zealand's most comprehensive database of freely available camping information. This is the only travel map of its kind in NZ.
Located on the banks of the Waihī River, this campsite is a popular spot surrounded by kahikatea, mataī and lowland tōtara forest.
The Waihi Gorge Camping Ground is a huge grassy area with lots of rocky outcrops creating a terraced area with a stream running through the middle. It is a really sunny open space and is great in the afternoon. There are rubbish/ recycling facilities here. Please note that the surrounding farmland is private property.
To get here head out of Geraldine via Main Road North, onto Woodbury Road into Waihi Gorge Road.
Waihi Gorge Campsite is categorised as a DOC Standard Campsite. The following pricing indicates usual pricing. Prices vary for some campsites and may include seasonal pricing. Visit the DOC website for exact pricing.
Standard campsites have a more limited range of facilities and services than Serviced campsites. These campsites have toilets, a water supply that could be treated or untreated tap water, or from a stream or lake, and vehicle or boat access. Bring your own soap for washing hands. Untreated water should be boiled before use to ensure it's safe. Wood BBQs and fireplaces, cold showers, picnic tables, a cooking shelter and rubbish bins may be provided; this will vary from site to site.

Our first camp out of Christchurch.
Lots of room to camp with clean, flushing toilets. We had a great time exploring the river and the drive in, though a little long, was through beautiful countryside,so worth it. Definitely recommend.

This was a beautiful campground, it was a bit of a drive out of town but worth it.
Huge camping area, we were the only ones there when we stayed. Beautiful stream that you can camp near. Clean, flushing toilets on each end of the campsite. We would definitely visit again.

Beautiful views, we especially loved how peaceful it was, I think there was only one other camper on the entire site!
Easy self registration $8per person. Cool that there are fire pits which help to keep the sandflies away!

It's cheap, so that was good, but very basic campsite.

We paid $16 for two people in an unpowered campervan site.
This is a big grassy area with nice views and very basic facilities, though the toilets do flush. Sand flies were present and annoying here. The spot seems to be in the middle of nowhere, so I wouldn't recommend driving far out of your way for it, but if you're in the area this a fine spot to spend the night! Good value overall.

No facilities though there were some toilets, but they didn't work. Only water that you have to boil before drinking. So if you don't need all that, the site is amazing!
