Fiordland Great Views Holiday Park

A paradise on Lake Te Anau Stunning views from a tranquil location close to town. A great place to stay while seeing fiordland

Fiordland Great Views Holiday Park is situated 1.2 km from Te Anau boundary. Only a 20 minute walk brings you to Te Anau town centre, the walking capital of New Zealand with famous walking trails such as the Routeburn, Hollyford and Kepler track. For a shorter walk why not try the Lakeside Path which takes around 50 minutes. If you don't feel up to a walk around town then try our London Taxi.

Lying on elevated land; The Fiordland Great Views Holiday Park offers spectacular views of Lake Te Anau and the Fiordland National Park mountains and views of the nearby Manapouri mountain ranges. Enjoy the only holiday park in Te Anau with a true country setting which is also situated next to a river for recreation. A quiet tranquil atmosphere and lovely garden setting offers the perfect spot for a relaxing family holiday.

Yes the welcome was a bit grumpy.

We turned up at 1.30. No we didn’t know check in was 2.00 and a simple explanation would have sufficed 🤬. However it is a nice site with reasonable facilities and a couple of benches with nice views. Short drive into town past the lamas!

We have just left Fiordland GREAT VIEWS Camping site and whilst we found the owner welcoming and the site beautifully kept, clean and very pretty we cannot give 10 stars because we felt totally hemmed

Inn. The site is situated off a straight stretch of the main highway with traffic travelling at fast speeds and using this road without footpaths is the only way to get anywhere. It is a shame that there is wire fencing between the campsite and ground where trees have been felled, from here you get a tiny glimpse of the lake but certainly not a GREAT VIEW.. I did go to reception to ask of there was a track but reception was closed, just a bell and note saying that if there was no reply after 2 minutes to phone a number. Seemed like a lot of trouble to bother the owner for so we abandoned our plans and stayed in the RV. I'd recommend tis place for a stopover but not somewhere to use as a base for doing much on foot I'm afraid. Only place we've found with a hanwashing sink next to the dump station though.

I arrived here for a normal price and I am very happy with this quiet, nice camping.

    Very unwelcoming vibe.

Reception is closed so we had to press the button or call the number, owner stays right beside the property. Toilets are clean but feels a little scary. We used the kitchen, but half of the stove isn't working, minimal kitchen utensil was provided (only pan and pots). The boiling hot water machine is not functioning as well so you have to boil your own water. Theres laundry but without detergent and change machine (we tried to ask receptionist for change but she refused and asked us to drive down the road for change).

Quiet and clean campsite but missing the welcoming vibe of many other places we've stayed in.

We had a very poor customer experience when leaving as we were filling up water at the adjoining site (we had used the dump site and then reversed into our adjoing site to fill up the water tank). The owners directed us very rudely to use the tap at the dump site, apparently there was a fresh water tap (not marked). We argued that we were concerned filing up at the dump site and preferred to continue to fill up where we were (what are the water taps on the camping grounds after all??). Owner told us that water is recommended to be boiled (again not signposted) and we shouldn't park on the adjoining site because there are water tanks underneath?? (No signage) Owners were very rude and we were extremely disappointed by the experience. We'd had a much better experience at The Gateway in the town centre the night before, wish we would have kept driving on our return journey from Milford Sound and stayed there again. Also as others have said in their comments, it's cash only, so beware.

Called to make a booking and all was well.

No need to pay just turn up and we’ll do it then. Turned up and needed cash, lucky to have enough as they didn’t tell us they wouldn’t take cards.

Rules on just about everything, posted everywhere.

You can borrow stuff for cooking, at a cost. Some needed a deposit but having used all our cash we did with what we had.

There are two toilet/shower blocks. One is great the other is not great at all. Found this out after having a cold “pits and bits” wash. Explains why the reviews are so mixed!

Did I mention the rules... Long list supplied when you pay for your site and individual rules posted throughout... the atmosphere is pretty uptight.

Charging is prohibited in the kitchen, allowed in the internet room, which closes at 10pm. Cooking utensils can be borrowed free of charge, but caution is needed. Gas grills paid by use time. Fridge in the kitchen is broken (freezer works). Payment by cash only. Noise from the road. On the plus side - very nice isolated tent locations, good showers for free with hair driers.

Clean and tidy place, reception personnel however lacks something to be desired- when checking in we asked if we could get place no.13 since it had a beautiful view (which the campsite advertises with

). The lady at the reception desk declined pointing out that there was already someone on the 12 and she didn't want them to be disturbed - even though the slots are divided by thick hedgerows - and then giving us a place somewhere in the backyard without any view at all. There was someone at the other side on slot 11 though. Then I wanted to take the registration number of our campervan down (which we unfortunately didn't know by heart) and walked to the door from where I could see the car. My putting the registration sheet to the wall so I could write the number down caused a sharp "Don't write on the wall!!! It is only four digits so you should be able to memorize them and write them down at the desk" from the lady. So far, so good! Eventually my credit card got declined when we proceeded to payment. I asked if we could try again but she declined saying that she allegedly wasn't allowed to give it another try if the card had been declined once (never heard of) and so I now needed to pay in cash. Wouldn't stay here again if it could be avoided...

I think that the other reviews are on the harsher side.

18pp non powered site. Yes the owners aren’t over the top happy but they are nice enough and the campsite itself is beautiful, tastefully decorated and very clean. The bathrooms are gorgeous (look like spa ones) with a hairdryer by every sink and heated. Plenty of showers and free unlike some campsites which are coin operated. There is limited amount of kitchen utensils but they provide you with cutlery etc. if you ask and if you are in a camper it’s not like you don’t have your own stuff anyway?! Pretty site especially in spring with all the blossom.

The views weren't great because of the tall hedges, but each space was pretty private and nicely kept. We didn't use the kitchen. But the showers and bathroom near the camper van sites were amazing. Lots of stalls, heating, natural light, clean and hairdryers at every sink.

Very unwelcoming atmosphere. Yes the facilities are ok, but you are not allowed to charge mobile phones or cameras (which is just ridiculous) and for example for the use of the drying room you have to pay extra 5 dollars. In general they make you pay for everything... and 20 dollars is just too much for what you get. One if the worst places we have been to.

Have to admit that the other reviews are fair comments on this campsite.

We were dealt with by a very tacturn man who made us feel like we had inconvenienced him. And I did have to raise my eyebrows at his statement that they only dealt with cash and had no eftpos or credit card facilities. He also suggested that if we didn't have enough we could drive into Te Anau and get some out. Really wonder how that works for them in this electronic cashless world! And where does all that cash go????

In saying that the tent sites were good, flat, grassy individual bays and the toilet facilities were very luxurious.

Cost us $40 cash for a non powered tent site.

Beware of the road noise which starts early as the site is on the main road to Milford.
