Speaking as an approx 50 year old kiwi, place felt very genuine.
Facilities of their era when built, clean, upkept.
Super nice check in experience.
We visited at a quiet time, and the absence of what looked like more frequent guests at semi permanent sites was welcome.
Strongly disagree with an earlier Dutch reviewer on feeling but each to their own.
Showers did look to take coins, we used our own shower, so that seemed odd to my nearly cashless life.
Just be prepared, I am supposing the office anticipates coin demand as an exchange site.
We camped as close to beach as possible. Serene.
Laid back approach to check out time given the season left us feeling even happier than expected.
The layout of windbreaks natural and otherwise lend a feeling of greater privacy and retreat than would an open expanse.
Totally recommend

Love this quiet safe camping ground.
Close to beach but sheltered from sea breezes. Lovely accomodating owners go the extra mile. Great for children, we took the bikes quiet streets and areas to bike, 2 playgrounds well kept. Kitchen clean large and well kept, new barbeque and a pizza oven. Famous fish n chips on fri and sat nights. Will be back for sure.

2 adults on a powered pitch mid March.
Good value for money at $30 a night, and close to Christchurch for those in need of proximity.
Showers and toilets are fine, although require a $2 coin, and we’re covered in cobwebs.
Beach access is easy although it isn’t the nicest beach. The campsite had a ‘Ghost Town’ vibe about it; many permanent vans and their elaborate set ups...

Not impressed with this camp at all.
The lady at check in seemed quite indignant when I asked if they gave discount to NZMCA members. Given the facilities available, my thoughts of a $ 30 charge with $2 a shower was a bit much. The park has a set of rules that read more like a copy of the Crimes Act 1961 than mere rules for a motor camp.
The many permanent caravan sites that were deserted gave the park a feeling of being run down.
Wouldn't recommend this as a stop over park for the tourist trade and there are better options in this locality for travelling NZMCA members.

Old and run down.
Is the best description I can give. As expected the places by the beach are the same everywhere in the world. Squeeze every last dollar out of your guests. We have traveled all over the South Island and have never paid for showers separately on a commercial campsite (with commercial fees $30,- per night) the facilities are old and very basic albeit clean and the shower was actually not bad (apart from turning cold when the money ran out). The place is very crowded with long term guests who leave their caravans here for the season. Al the empty caravans give the place a gloomy desolate feel. Also they should join the 21st century 100MB free WiFi in 2019 is the same as no free WiFi. The guy at the shop actually made a big deal about it as if he was giving us something really special... All in all more or less good location next to the beach but definitely not worth the $30,- the charge for a campervan with 2 adults.

Appeared to have quite a few permanent vans, clean but dated facilities.
2 dollars for a shower. The shower took my husbands 2 dollars and did not work. The lady at reception did refund the 2 dollars, yet it was an inconvenience.

Great campground with very well equipped and clean kitchen.
Facilities are spotless and just $2 for 8 minute shower (for women, men are 5minute). They even have nice outdoor seating areas, both sheltered and unsheltered, and a BBQ. Very good price!

Very friendly staff and great location to Christchurch as we were flying out the next day.
(Half an hour drive). Clean facilities: toilets and showers, hair dryers, flowers a nice touch. Laundry only costs $2 a load. Dump station, water and rubbish facilities. $30 for a powered or unpowered site for two people. Only reason not giving it a 10 is you have to pay $2 for a 10 minute hot shower. Other than that would definitely recommend :)
