We accidentally stayed on this side of Abel Tasman Nat Park, but we are glad we did.
We wanted to catch the cruises that mostly depart on the east side of the national park (check out Katerikeri). BUT we had a great time exploring Pohara, the beach, Molly B’s and the Farewell Spit (great loop hike with sheep)! We ended up staying two nights and booking a Abel Tasman sea cruise the third day… and just drove around to meet the boat. CJ (at check in) was amazing, knowledgeable and extremely hospitable. Thanks CJ!!

Has a great location right on the beach - the shower block is about 25m from the sand!
I paid $35 to camp in a tent for one night, which seemed relatively expensive. The ground was level and not very stony, so it was a comfortable night.
The kitchen has ovens, hobs, fridges, water boilers. There are no communal crockery or cutlery so you need your own.
You have to pay for showers - they are trying to save water I suppose, at the same time the price to stay is rather high.

As beach campsites go this is very good but, inevitably it is busy but it wasn’t noisy after 10.30 the night we were there and really people seemed to be very law abiding.
It’s an excellent beach and the facilities were good and clean. It’s a big site and the pitches area good size.

Good site right on the beach.
Campsites don’t have a direct view but the beach is a 23 second walk. Facilities are a dated but very clean. Staff was amazing.
Had dinner in Takaka at Roots and lunch the next day at the Mussel Inn. Recommend both.

This campsite is located right on the beach athough there is a fence which blocks the view and the prevailing winds.

08Oct18.
First time here. A big campsite but not busy at all when we were there. Friendly reception. Large level pitches. Good facilities.
Pay showers but water is an issue in this part of NZ. 50c for 6 minutes. There is a counter on the unit so you can see the remaining time and put more money in if required.
There is a vehicle wash down facility. It is on the boat ramp and very sandy so expect to walk sand inside unless you brush it off first!
On our next visit to NZ we will come here again as we will always visit the nearby Grove Reserve.
Drive further round towards Tata Beach. Not sure if that is where we had coffee but it was beautiful. I could just sit there and enjoy the view for ages, and did.
On the way back check out the Abel Tasman monument and lookout. Interesting and great views.
