Great camping right by the beach.
The facilities were clean and tidy with no queues even over the peak season. Hot showers with plenty of pressure. The beach was nice for swimming or surfing. We paid $22 per person for an unpowered site over the Christmas period.

Just spent a night here.
Very pleasant, on the beach, hot water at outdoor sinks and in bathrooms including showers. Lots of kiddie stuff. Quiet (we were one of only two customers there on Dec 19). 5 min drive into town. And only $5pp. This place is not listed correctly by price by Rankers! Highly recommend staying here.

We stayed at the camp over Waitangi Weekend, staying an extra day.
While we had a lovely time at the camp meeting new people, we would not stay at this camp again. We checked in on the Thursday before the long weekend, they did not have our booking (we had rung previously) and stayed in the Winger Field. It was private with about 7 or so caravans, and we had a nice time. Everyone checked out Waitangi Monday except our 2 vans. Suddenly the toilet and shower block that serviced this field were locked without any discussion with us. One of our men visited the office, and was told us we must now use the other block, which was about 300 meters away. He is 77 and through an injury, walking was very hard work. The ladies went back and said we were unhappy about this, we were rudely told the block was open longer than normal and normally shut by this date. This was not our problem, they took our money, we had access to this block and they should be left open for use until they no longer took bookings for this area. We asked nicely. Then the young lady went nasty and said we were rude! Excuse me, we were anything but rude. She stomped out, got on her bike, and drove it with anger to the toilet block. I said we only needed one side opened, she didn’t have the good grace to even apologise for her behaviour. When we went into the block, it was filthy (not cleaned from the day before), so what was the issue? It was not like it was cleaned, and closed for the season. However, we paid for the right to access the amenities, this was rudely denied. This is the hospitality industry and her behaviour was anything but. We were disgusted. People make the business, irrespective of the surroundings. Interestingly, we visited Island View Holiday Park to check their grounds, the place was totally packed. In comparison, this place was not. Doesn’t that say something? In 40 years of camping, we have never struck such nastiness and rudeness.

My family comes here every year and we love it.
We seem to always get spectacular weather and the beach is lovely to swim in. Facilities are basic but always clean and well maintained.

While the nearby beach was beautiful and deserted, this campground was quite disappointing; the communal areas (kitchen and bathrooms) were old and unkept.
The kitchen had no amenities except sinks, 2 ranges, and a couple of very old microwaves and toasters; there were NO dishcloths, dish racks, dish soap, tea towels, pots, pans, utensils, or cookware of any kind. There were multiple fridges and a freezer, but they were not turned on. We turned them on to use them in the evening, but they had all been turned off when we returned in the morning. The men’s bathroom was particularly ill-equipped, without even a hand dryer. We received no orientation to the campground, nor was a map provided. The significant road noise continued all night long.
With some upkeep and the addition of some amenities, we might be able to recommend this campground but, at this point in time, we cannot.
Note: **there is no longer a barbeque**

A small site which has everything you need.
Not modern but clean enough and cheap. Any deficiencies were more than compensated for by the closeness to the stunning beach. Highly recommend this site.

We really liked this site.
There's loads of space, clean, good showers at no extra cost (although it's requested you only use them for 3 minutes) and picnic tables spread across the grounds. The location is also great right next to the beach and the Motu Dunes cycleway. It was $30 for two people in March for an unpowered site.

When we drove into this site we were not sure.
We eventually found 'Glenys' - he was cleaning (HIs name is a joke I think, ) and he gave us a very friendly welcome. The buildings are quite old, don't be put off by that. Glenys, obviously does an excellent job, everything is pristine. The notice relating to 3 minute showers ignore, that is there to ensure children do not waste water and the showers are great. A three minute walk, across the site takes you to a beautiful beach, lovely for bathing fishing and bird watching.

Hi, We ranked this place a 9 as it is low cost parking when you belong to the NZMCA .
GREAT area set aside
1.5 hectars but only available during winter months . Very sheltered great fishing , not too much road noise , but if in bigger rig drive into campground proper and turn around then drive into NZMCA area. water available , pack in pack out , store on site
