Despite booking and paying $50 online for a powered site x 2 pac we arrived just after 5.30 to find office closed, no envelope with instructions.
Admittedly there had been a lot of rain recently so the grass sites were soggy and we were concerned we might get bogged over night. The two men’s and ladies toilets are in seperate blocks to the showers, both very basic and need updating. The kitchen although a reasonable size and had enough cooking tops and sinks had no power points to charge phones etc and a hot water tank was in place for hot water. Also be prepared for an interrupted night as close to the highway.
Our opinion was that due to the location and a captive audience with no other place around to stay after a long days drive the price was too high for the quality of facilities being so poor.
If desperate stay, if you have time, drive on.

Stayed for 2 nights in powered site in our caravan.
Plenty of sites, basically a big open area. Toilets (men’s and ladies) basic but useable. Two showers in separate room. Didn’t use kitchen as we cooked by our van. Close to river with popular swimming hole. Had extra flush toilets there for swimmers which was handy. We camped under huge trees at the end for their shade. Also next to bush area with marked tracks throughout for short walks. Great for dogs.
Picnic tables scattered around campsite,
In all, basic place but enjoyed it because it was simple and quiet.
Paid $40 for 2 pax powered site.

ANSWER THE PHONE or have common Courtesy to update website or contact for check ins, after the long travel our family done, and with this time of year, we waited an hour, phoned 9 times sent texts, tended
to our 2 young children in the car which we had to leave on for heating as it was wet and cold, all cabins had keys people whom seemed they were there were very secluded and payed no attention to coming and going vehicles. Homeless would call this place a haven during cold night's. The disappointing 😕 part is i grew up around this camping ground, and even in the winter seasons never have I seen this place so gloomy and grim. To think 🤔 our family have shares in this land where it now looks and feels Deserted & Isolated. Bring the life back, I'd be keen to take on that opportunity. Honestly can not recommend this as a warm inviting lovely family friendly environment to stay at. Kotahi Whanau Tū Mai Maori Tangata.

Older facilities but relatively tidy.
$18 seemed a bit steep for a (slightly muddy) bit of grass and just an overnight unpowered stay.

To call it campground yes, its cool, old fashioned, just two old showers and WC for each genre, then basic pretty nice kitchen with usefull equimpent, very nice outside dinnig area, grassy area for tents..but holiday park no no.. would not call it like that and for the price 18pp, unpowered tent.

+ Very friendly and helpful owners.
We came back another night after the refered 3-day-canoe-trip (we were exhausted). We slept-in/check out really late without a problem. Hot (strong) clean showers and very clean (real) toilets. Big kitchen, gas-bbq, and plenty of picknicktables. Washer and dryer made my dirty laundry happy within no time! Right besides the start of the Wanganui river (swimarea). Site is right outside town (great pies at the Taumaruni Bakery).
- Drinkingwater (bad muddy taste, both days)
- Long train in the middle of the night right next to campsite (earplugs :)

Great little place.
Picnic table to use beside campervan. Right by river and a walk nearby which had it not been pouring with rain we would have run down in the morning. Facilities great, everything you need and a fantastic herb and vegetable garden to help yourself too. Staff friendly as well.

Campsite should be updated, seems old fashioned.
Male shower was not working. Looked like it hadn’t been cleaned for a while. No soap in bathroom or kitchen.
Campsite is next to highway and (active) railway, so earplugs are advisable.

A basic old campground like they used to be.
Ok except that there’s several ‘permanents’ living there who don’t tidy up after themselves. Otherwise ok

Had high expectations but this site is not for us.
Only stayed one night not sure how it got there but there was mud on both showers and in the sink. I know that probably the campers did this but off putting. Might also have been different if there wasn’t a party of schoolboys there (at least 20) who took over and it was pouring with rain. Well not be staying there again sorry.

Fantastic.
Stunning view, beautiful camp grounds, $36 for 2 people unpowered site, but with access to what seemed like newly renovated facilities, the lady at check in was very friendly, and had even offered to drive my missus and I into town to pick up some drinks/snacks as our camper was already set up for bedding, after she had finished her shift for the day, and brought us back, 10/10 for service for sure.

Really nice place to camp.
Great managers and facilities and fair pricing. Nice hot showers and a kitchen with gas grills outside to prepare your food. If you need to charge your electronic devices there's a cabin with power outlets. There's also a washing machine and dryer. If you need to refresh yourself after some public campsites this is a great place to do this.

This place was simply amazing.
After hiking the Tongariro there is nothing better than a nice hot shower (hairdryers were provided) and the possibility of washing clothes. The owners are truly welcoming and nice. I needed to send a very important document and they let me use their own computer. I could not be more grateful for that! Nice and comfortable place. Clearly worthy!

Phil and Helene are fantastic hosts.
More than willing to go out of their way to make you stay pleasant and enjoyable.
We stayed 4 nights as a non-powered camping unit. We were having battery issues with the campervan and Phil was kind enough to offer a battery charger, extension cord and plug in adapter for our use. MUCH appreciated. We were expecting a parcel by courier, and Helene went to the trouble of checking with them when it didn't arrive on time.
More than friendly. :)

The reception was as welcoming as it could be.
We could choose our place freely. Nice BBQ-place, well equipped kitchen, hot and free showers. And the best: customers can pick herbs like thyme, parsley, rosemary or basil, fetch tomatoes it get some lettuce - for free. What grows can be consumed. So we had a nice barbecue with salad and fresh herbs... these little things make the atmosphere.
It's a bit close to a main road, so some people may find this a bit disturbing, but for me the advantages compensated easily for this.

We booked a cabin here for our first night, knowing it would be rough weather and intended to stay on an unpowered site for the remaining 2 nights of our holiday.
Unfortunately, the good (nice setting with green surrounds, not too manicured, unmetered good pressure hot showers and vege/herbs you can help yourself to) didn't make up for the location, which is on a main highway and train track. Nothing ruins a stay like no sleep! The park is also at that age where you're unsure if it's just old/tired or dirty but in this case it's a bit of both. If you're self contained, would be a lovely setting.
