Puketi forest is easily accessible from the Bay of Islands. The Puketi Recreation Area is accessed via unsealed roads from SH 10, Waipapa. From the Recreation Area, follow the signs to walk out along Pirau Rd.

This old logging road provides walking or mountain biking opportunities.
