Big Little Campers is independent campervan rental for your ultimate Kiwi roadie. For us, travel’s always been about the simple joy of being deeply engaged in adventure and feeling part of a community, even when on the road.
A little something about us. Jon, Lizi, and Jason launched Big Little Campers in 2019 with a single goal in mind. To design and build the best rental campervans on the market, and create once-in-a-lifetime #VanLife experiences for visitors to New Zealand. Our philosophy hasn’t changed, but our team and our fleet of campervans just keep on growing.
As passionate, lifelong surfers and independent travellers, we’ve explored the world, and driven the length and breadth of New Zealand. We know what matters on the road: a convertible living space, comfy beds, plush towels, real coffee, and somewhere to keep those sunset beverages cold. And most importantly, reliable vehicles with the latest safety features, supported by a team who has your back, to keep you moving forward.

Wonderful experience with Big Little Campers!
The camper was very nice, up-to-date and surprisingly such a comfortable place to sleep :) they had all of the necessities so I just needed to basically buy groceries and I was set!
The communication with Big Little was prompt and they made booking so simple. Highly recommend them and look forward to booking with them again in the future!

We had an amazing time with Big Little Camper.
We rented the “Little One MK2” for almost 4 weeks and were super happy with it. Perfectly to drive and in shape. Plus a lot of little details that the team thinks about (e.g., camping chairs and tables are included).
Communication with the whole Big Little Camper team was superb, from support during the booking process to changes with the pickup location to quick answers to our question!
Overall, we had a fantastic time in NZ and with Big Little Camper! Can highly recommend.

We rented from Big Little Campers for an epic 13 day road trip starting in Christchurch and ending in Auckland.
The van and the BLC crew were amazing. They answered all our questions promptly before arrival, accommodated our crazy schedule, and were all around awesome. We really liked the discrete nature of the logos/markings on the van, which was mechanically sound and drove very well. Would certainly recommend.

Excellent example of a small business run very well!
Really easy to book direct, had the perfect slot for us to pick up in Christchurch and drop off in Auckland. The van itself was the Little One MK2, and we couldn't have been happier with it. It had a good amount of space for the two of us without feeling cramped, they'd thought of everything and managed to squeeze it all into the van. Fully stocked kitchenette, including oil and salt, and some things we didn't expect to have like a grater and tea strainer! The bed was extremely comfortable sleep on, neither of us struggled. To drive it was incredibly easy being an automatic, and there was someone on the other end of the phone when we really needed them. Overall, a 10/10 once in a lifetime experience that we are so glad we chose Big Little for!

The van we got for big little campers was excellent!
Big enough that everything we could wish for was included, but small enough to get in all parking and camping spaces. We'll definitely come back when we return to New Zealand!

Great company to rent a campervan.
The lady who explained how everything worked was very enthusiastic and gave us some great advice on what activities would be awesome to do. The van was great and provided everything we needed during our trip through New Zealand. Next time we visit the country we will definitely rent a campervan here again!! Only thing I missed was maybe some ventilation for during the night.

Overall very good experience.
Some minor flaws (cleanliness in the nooks and niches), but nothing that would have compromised our great trip. Over 6,000 km in 57 days and not once we needed to call for mechanic. Would book with them again!

The van we got for big little campers was excellent!

My wife and I travelled for the first time in a campervan with 'The Little One' on both the North and South Island.
The van was a reliable little one, never broke down during the 10 days we had it and was comfortable enough for 2 people. During the pickup, Nicolle meticulously guided us on what to do and where to go. That was such a godsend because two days worth of our itinerary was cancelled due to bad weather! These guys know what they're doing. Thanks BLC!

Lovely little van, just right for 2 of us.
We spent 3 weeks in it and found it comfortable and functional. The only downside was the gearbox and lack of power uphills. The layout, storage space, fridge, cooker, sink and battery power were all very well thought out and made living in a van relatively easy.

Big Little Campers is EPIC!
Our little family of 4 recently made the trip from our home in Hawaii to the north island of New Zealand. A friend told us to contact Jon from Big Little Campers. Our trip was scheduled last minute and he somehow manifested, out of thin air, the largest camper in his fleet. Had it cleaned and sorted for us during our flight from Honolulu to Auckland and somehow magically parked and waiting for us with perfect instructions on how to navigate to a place to stay for the night. Inside he included a SIM card with prepaid data so we could safely "google maps" our way to our sleeping space. He even made time the next morning to prepare a special itinerary for our family. We have a toddler in a wheelchair and some specific needs. He basically custom-designed our trip for us around some of his favorite places which seemed to line up with our desired experiences. From skateparks to vistas, beaches, surfing, cultural learning opportunities, hikes and cafes, Big Little Campers came through in a huge way. He even threw in a fishing pole so we could try our luck at living off the land a little. Our camper was perfect for our family. I imagine we could even have fit a couple more kids in there if we were crazy enough to attempt it. Van was in perfect running condition, clean, easy to set up and take down the beds and access refrigerator and stove. It was our first camper van experience and we'd definitely do it again. Drop off/pickup was easy as. I can't imagine how Big Little Campers manages to keep things so personable but we honestly felt like part of their family and were treated to a very special and intentional experience. 10 out of 10 experience. I've already recommended them to so many of my friends. We needed time to bond as a family and experience a slower pace of life. We found that and so much more on this adventure. Thanks so much to Jon and crew for investing in our family with our business. Stoked to see you again in the future!

Great service and a lovely little van (I had the vanlifer, which was perfect for one person), efficiently kitted out and great to drive.
Jon gave great advice about places to go and was responsive and flexible as plans changed. Would highly recommend and definitely use again.

One great month with the Toyota Hiace.
Pick-up location is just a short walk away from the Park&Ride from Auckland airport. Nicolle welcomed us and introduced us to all the features of the van plus gave useful tips for travelling. Everything was as described. Had a great time travelling the North&South island, even though the van is not the most powerful. The team was always quick and easy to contact in case anything came up. We can definitely recommend BLC and would consider booking again if (or rather when) we come back!

Definitely recommended!
We travelled around NZ on ‘the little one’ for 7 weeks and had a great time. The van was great, never broke down and John was always available for support when needed.
We loved the setup of the camper and it is very efficient in comparison to others: the van is small (convenient on the roads) but still has lots of storage so it doesn’t feel like that.
Next to the great interior, there’s everything you need: kitchen (2-pit), fridge, table and chairs, toilet (which we never had to use) and just anything you need in the kitchen :)

I loved this van!
Was so comfortable, clean, and reliable. It had everything I didn't know I needed, including solar powered chargeing so I could charge my phone overnight when the car was off :) All the appliances worked great and it was very reliable on the road.

We had a great time booking a camper van through Big Little Campers.
We rented for almost a week and traveled all over the North Island. Pick up and drop off was super easy and Jon was very responsive anytime we sent him a message.
It really feels like they thought of everything when equipping the van, and we certainly were without need with the amenities provided!
Would definitely book again.

First ever campervan trip with my partner and we had a blast.
Jon, the founder, was super helpful with tips and tricks and very responsive to any issues (which were few and far apart). The van was kitted out with all the bits we needed – it was hard to say goodbye to the van that was our home for a month. I would highly recommend Little Big Campers to mates and strangers.

When things didn’t quite go to plan with our holiday, they were amazing to deal with and helped us out. The van was super cosy and easy to drive and had everything we needed! Would definitely recommend hiring a van with these guys.

They bought the van to me and picked it up again from my house.
All I needed to bring with me on my trip was food and dishwashing liquid, everything else was done for me. fantastic service and made the trip carefree. Would absolutely use them again!

Such an awesome experience with the team at Big Little Campers.
Easy pick up and communication from Jon was always straight forward. We rented the medium van and there was plenty of room for myself and husband for a week camping up North in colder weather. It had all the facilities we needed including cleaning/ cooks bits. Overall a great experience and will definitely be using them again for a bigger trip next time! Thanks guys :)

Spent 3 weeks travelling in the little one.
It was very comfortable and kitted out with everything you would ever need. We did lots of cooking from the kitchen space which worked really well. Although it’s a small van it has been very well thought out and the layout design means you have plenty of space.
Lizzie & John gave us lots of good tips to help us plan our trip, and were always quick to respond whenever we got in touch.
Would highly recommend using these guys, they provide a great service/experience.
