A quiet and peaceful spot.
Lovely lake, awesome sunsets, brilliant for stargazing. There are two composting toilets, a large undercover eating area, plenty of rubbish bins but no water supply . You can camp lakeside at numerous spots, or beneath large trees for shade. A fantastic spot with no overnight charge.

We were taken aback with the beautiful condition of the amenities.
The tile and glass showers were of a standard unexpected for a holiday park. The provision of free wifi and free hot water in the showers was also appreciated. The laundry facilities were excellent. The games room looked fun, the grounds were perfectly groomed and the sites were well marked and spacious. The mini golf was an added bonus and well presented. The staff were friendly and helpful. I would stay here again without hesitation and use the holiday park as a base for seeing the attractions in Hokitika, Punakaiki and the cycle trail.

Appalling.
I might add I never complain or write bad reviews, so this is a first for me. We went here a year ago and was impressed with how thorough the manager was about everyone abiding by camp rules. So we visited for a long weekend, my wife and I, our daughter and two little grandchildren. The experience was so miserable we packed up and left after the first night. My daughter wanted to leave within half an hour of arriving. Firstly the ladies on the office couldn’t find our booking, until I showed a copy of her email she sent confirming it. We were given two sites directly opposite a large group of around 20 adults who had set up two marquees where they sat, drank and swore continuously all afternoon and evening with the last ones heading off to bed about 1.30am. By 9am they were back at the marquee. In fact, all down this end of the campground there were similar groups set up under smaller marquees. When I expressed my dissatisfaction I was told that I should have known this particular weekend was going to be like this as the holiday park was full for a Speedway event in town. I.e. it was our fault for booking this particular weekend. Yet there were sites available in quiet family friendly areas, but as we had spent the previous hour packing up, we weren’t in the mood of risking another night. We packed up and left, no apology was offered by the staff, and a request for a refund for the unused night was outright turned down. I won’t be going here again.

Very nice camp ground with clean amenities.
Free hot water showers. Free access to the adjacent public outdoor pools. 15 minute stroll into the town square. We’ll happily camp here again.

Lovely motor camp on a fine day, but can get a bit breezy at times.
Friendly and helpful hosts. Plenty of space with access to the beach just a few steps. Conviently located beside the wonderful coastal cycle and walkway. The amenities are a bit light for a camp of this size. We’d happily stay here again.
Thanks for the feedback, Ralph - we really appreciate you taking the time to write a review. We're so glad you enjoyed your stay at the beach.
Cheers,
Jenn

Very friendly hosts.
We were given a choice of where we would like to camp. Each site was large and seperated by hedges for privacy. The grounds were park-like and clean. Tents could pitch beneath shade trees or on an open field. Toilets and kitchen were very clean. Price was $18 per person. I would stay here again without hesitation.
Hi Ralph, Thanks for your find words. We are pleased you enjoyed your stay :)

We stayed at the Himitangi Beach Hilday Park because of the reviews.
It is by far, without exaggeration the cleanest motor camp we have stayed at. Less than half the sites were permanent, with large areas for tents and caravans. All sites are large enough for a car, caravan, awning and still more room to not feel like you’re up against your neighbour. have power and clean drinkable water. Great facilities. On our arrival the friendly owner took us on a tour of the facilities and showed us where everything was. The best thing was we could camp on whatever site we preferred.
WOW, thanks for a lovely review, so glad you enjoyed your stay. Hope to see you again soon.

Great motor-camp with good sized tent sites available on the edge of the lake.
The motor-camp is located tight beside state highway 1 so there is significant traffic noise particularly from trucks in the evening. However, this is made up for in the morning with the most spectacular lake views. Clean facilities. Free internet, free hot water showers. We arrived late do the office staff left an info pack in a safe outside the office clearly marked where our lot was located. They texted the safe password to us. Happily stay here again for a few nights.
What a great review Ralph, thank you. We see numerous photos from guests popping up on social media showing the spectacular views of the lake at dusk and sunrise....so it must be true ;) We do hope to see you again soon and we're pleased that your late check in was quick and easy.

Beautiful park with plenty of choice as to where to camp.
The ranger comes around each evening to collect camping fees. At $8 per adults it’s great value. Toilets and cooking areas are adequate. There are no showers. Good swimming holes nearby. Very happy to stay again.
