Did the Kaituna River Rafting in November 2010 - was a truly awesome experience, particularly the waterfalls we went through - great fun and a bit scary at the same time!
The trip is quite short - less than an hour on the water, and it took ages to get everyone organised to actually go out on the water (but there was a huge group that showed up a bit late). I was also a bit worried about some of the people that went out rafting who could not swim and did not understand any English - but they all made it through as well. The guides were really good fun and nice. Overall a great activity close to Rotorua (about 20km out of town is the office, right next to hell's gate; and then another ~20min drive once you are geared up)

Beautiful McLaren Falls Reserve has some gloworms around a canyon you can kayak into - you start your kayak at twilight, which is beautiful, and get to see gloworms without crowds, + get a mysterious nighttime
paddle back listening to birds. Steve was really nice and helpful, he even provided free digital photos via an email after the tour. Can highly recommend this tour! (is also the cheapest of the kind in the area)
