Stayed a night in the larger area 1km north.
There you'll find a clean toilets block as well.
Large area, flat with lots of grass. Very pleasant start.

Had a very nice stay here.
Nicely sized sites, hot showers and good facilities. Loved the pool and the trampoline!
WiFi with voucher feels out of time.

Fantastic spot but you have to arrive early and need to vacate the marked freedom camping area until 9am.
Good thing you can just re-park 5 m to the left and can have your late breakfast there.

Very nice place.
Lots of grass, a small pond. Nothing else. Easy access, no facilities at all, but everything is available on Gore.

Great place to stay!
Fully equipped kitchen, free, hot showers, one even with a little basin to bath the kids.
Everything is in great shape and Denis is a super friendly guy.
Full recommendation!

Campsite is next to the road, spacious with one side lined by trees.
Two long drops of okay quality.
Nice river in just two minute walk. Nice, free spot.

Unlimitted hot shower for free. Good facilities, great playground.

The staff is very friendly but can't compensate the site's shortcomings.
About half the heating spaces in the kitchen area were not working which lead to longer waiting time.
The dryer did less than half of its job so better get two of the tokens. Had to improvise as the office was closed and the clothes were wet.
Also shower experience was suboptimal. Machine was blocked by a coin so I couldn't get hot water.
I think it's better in off season, though.

Super nice place!
Saw three penguins and loved every moment of that.
Lots of seals, some chilling in the grass like 5 meters from the path. Keep your distance though.
Easy walk, not too full.
We went at around seven PM.
Note: the area is being closed around 7:30 so don't come too late.

Used this spot to go see the boulders and the penguin colony.
Nice large grounds, all grass.
Very friendly welcome and no nonsense interaction.
Clean facilities, large kitchen, good WiFi.
Plus: alpacas, sheep and Angus beef to greet the kids and mentally young.
Would stay again.

The campsite is located on a small peninsula in lake Wanaka.
It has lots of niches to put your camper in and nice clean toilets. There is a small shelter for cooking.
Be prepared for lots of wind. Good side of that: no Sandflys!
All in all one of my favourite places so far.

Not accessable at the moment due to construction work.
4.5/5
Gore had multiple free camping areas of which one is in Tower Lane, right under the trees.
This location is a bit noisy due to the clock tower.
There are free public restrooms just 150 meters from the parking. No showers.
The city provides free WiFi and it's really good!
Had the place to ourselves. Would stay again on my way to the Catlin's.
