Stopped here for the first night in our campervan.
Great site by lake with lots of space. Relatively busy but not totally full. Toilets perfectly fine. Helpful regular campers who helped us figure out some teething problems with our van and super close to Hobbiton!

As others have said, sites very close together and you don’t have much in the way of privacy.
Toilets and showers all functional and clean, and the hot pools were a nice novelty. Steam ovens looked cool although we didn’t manage to try them. Walking distance to Rotorua and all town centre attractions.

Campsite itself just a car park with one toilet.
A few visitors coming and going but overnight we were the only people staying so very quiet and private. Falls are beautiful and a lovely walk. Great site slightly off the beaten track. Bit of a steep drive uphill and nothing nearby in terms of shops or amenities so prepare!

Stayed here the night before and after crossing.
Facilities exactly as needed - kitchens, washrooms, laundry - and super easy and safe to get onto the crossing (and cheap, only NZD 40 per person for the hike). Definitely stay here the night after doing the Tongariro Crossing as you’ll be too tired to drive on and can have a hot shower and put your feet up!
