Before heading to Hobbiton, we stayed here for a night in one of the eight powered sites for a really reasonable amount of money (can't recall the actual value we paid).
We had access to a very clear public toilet, and almost nobody was spending the night there, so we basically had the (public) place for ourselves.

We arrived relatively early and found one of the five spots to park our self-contained motorhome.
There is a public toilet nearby without direct light for a night run, but at least its clear enough. A very quiet place to spend the night (maybe it was not peak season in July)

We saw some videos and pictures of the place, but that was nothing compared to live it by yourself.
We got there and soon tried to dig a hole in the sand to get some warm volcanic heated water, but we found *almost* boiling water just a few centimeters of the beach (where salt water was cold). It is a marvelous spectacle to have a hot bath with thermally heated water at the seashore. Something that you need to experience once in your lifetime.

Our family arrived on a Friday to Auckland International Airport, and we rent a motorhome to travel around NZ.
Our first night and the last night of the trip we stayed at Miranda Holiday Park. Such an excellent way to start or finish our journey. This place has all the necessary accommodation for travelers and motorhomes, and even have access to the hot spring pool early day and late night. This place was one of the highlights of our trip to NZ.
