Several spots for either self contained or even not self contained at the coast.
Can't see the pdifference regarding facilities so makes no sense where non self contained can park and where they can't. Get there early as spots are limited even though there is lots of space. Frustrating! Facilities were good.

Very limited space but great and free with excellent toilet.
Annoying locals drive by honking at night though. Beach 2 minutes walking distance.

Great free spot.
Close to road. Toilets have no seats and are 2 minutes away. Only few spots to park. Roosters wake you up very early and are fed by locals right next to your van to annoy people camping there I presume. Old lady laughed at us for being awake so early because of roosters. Rude! Okay for one night but nothing more.

One of the cheaper spots around here, still not cheap.
Free spades for hot water beach. Showers take 50 Cent for 6 minutes hot water. Everything clean. Laid back and super friendly staff. Late check out possible if you ask nicely. Would definitely stay here again.

Great views, no facilities, free.
Wind almost blew us away and car was shaking but could be seasonal. Would still recommend for self contained cars

Good spot for doing kauri tree walks.
Situated in the middle of nowhere. Nice owner shows you everything. Affordable. Facilities ok. Wifi only at Café down the road if it's open. Pretty busy. Free hot shower.

Nice quiet car park with toilets.
More camper stayed there than the allowed 4. Was no problem just a little loud at times. Good free spot.

One of the cheaper places in rotorua, still not cheap but offers a lot of value for the money.
Free spades for digging holes in the warm sand and hot pools are awesome! Facilities were good, would come again.
Thank you for your review. We are looking forward to you staying again.

Review for both camp sites as they are close together.
Only affordable camp sites around since they ban freedom camping around here. Annoying since camp sites are both pretty bad, old facilities and few good spots to park your car but seems to be the only cheap places. Stayed one night out of necessity.

Beautiful lake, lots and lots of space and free of charge.
Only downsite was that there was no water for toilets and sinks when we were there but that should be fixed by now. Birds were a bit annoying as they liked to be around the cars and be noisy at times

Cheapest place around milford but still a little too expensive.
What can you do? If you want to go to milford and stay one night go here. It is the closest one and offers drop toilets and nice views. Can get very windy in spring.
South Island ▷ Canterbury ▷ Hanmer Springs ▷

Excellent value, cheapest place around Hanmer.
Host was super friendly, facilities were fine, only the kitchen was in need of small repairs. Would take a powered site again anytime!

Great free spot.
Nice view of lake. Went there at night after taking a late ferry which was exhausting in the dark but ok. Plenty of space.

No one around so very quiet and peaceful.

Affordable nice camp site.
Some toilets needed repairs. Water not potable. Ducks were aggressive but a little fun to watch. Lots of space. Okay for one night

Went there end of October and sings forbade camping there.
Seems to be no longer available
South Island ▷ Southland ▷ Lumsden ▷
5.0/5
Great free spot, offers everything you need.
Sinks, toilets and showers for money. Spend some money in town, they deserve it for providing this great free spot. Slept here before going to milford as there seem to be no free spots on the way south to milford.

Very small spot for one big or two medium sized camper vans.
People walk dogs or play cricket but otherwise quiet spot. Toilets are 2 minute drive away.
South Island ▷ Nelson Region ▷ Motueka ▷

Offers all facilities, including washing mashines and several ovens to have a pizza or two.
Showers take are 50 Cent for 6 minutes. Overall nice spot but not cheap. Kayak tours through Abel tasman start nearby, would recommend these as well.

Excellent free spot for self - contained vehicles.
Plenty of space and decent toilets and free cold outdoor showers. The view of the ocean is great as well. Would come again!

Excellent views and many different beautiful walks.
Did enjoy the hooker Valley wall which takes about 3 hours return and offeres views of glacier lakes with ice on them. Kea point walk was also nice. Do go here for the walks! Facilities were good, the price is not cheap since it is a scenic doc site. Paid 13 for non-powered site per person.
