Landscapes an activities are interesting but many tourists like me thought the price was too high. It's also quite crowded.

DOC camping ground in a great spot!
Manager was really friendly and gives advice on good walks in the area. Camp just a few meters from a nice empty beach. Toilets and cold water showers.

Amazing trek through great landscapes, lakes with awesome colours, volcanoes....A must.
Climb Mt Ngauruhoe (Mt Doom) worthwhile if you have time.

Nice remote location at the northern tip of Cormandel Peninsular. Friendly manager and great walks nearby with many bays and nice beach.

Diving company that proposes an amazing dive at the Poor Knights Islands - a famous dive spot in NZ.
Service was excellent, staff friendly, maybe a little bit expensive for a really small budget.

Mount Taranaki Summit Track

If you like hiking, this is one of my best places in the North Island.
Great view from the top. The final walk to summit is very steep and can be slippery. Go on a nice day.
