Very disappointed with Real Journeys company.
Had booked on overnight cruise 3 mths prior to holiday in NZ. Had to re-confirm overnight cruise 48 hrs prior, went into office in Queenstown to be told boat was broken and had been for a week! Obviously a broken boat is out of their control, however we were told the boat had been broken for a week and were not told as soon as they were aware (which would have been handy as we were travelling with 2 small children and needed to then find alternate accommodation as we could not stay on boat). When I asked when we were going to be told, they said they had emailed me that day. We were given a refund but lost money on accommodation we had booked on subsequent days as we had to stay in region longer to take day time cruise of Milford with another company. Interesting to note the website was still advertising the overnight cruises as being available on the day we were originally booked on Milford Mariner, when the boat was in fact still broken (I asked at several Real Journey offices in Queenstown and Te Anau).

Mitre Peak Cruises

What a fantastic cruise.
After our original booking with largest cruise company in area (RJ) was cancelled due to broken boat, we rebooked with Mitre Peak and had a FABULOUS day. Smaller boat, only 45 people on board, all independent travellers and no large groups from tour buses (which go on the larger company cruise). Small boat could go right to edge of cliffs - right under waterfalls and up close to seals on rocks. Perfect amount of commentary, not to much but just enough to give you the main points of interest and leave you to enjoy the scenery. Highly recommended!
Cruises all go for same duration and see the same scenery ... Mitre Peak was definitely value for money compared to other companies.

Omega Rental Cars

We cannot fault the car we hired for 11 days.
I see bad reviews below - do your research first. We rang Omega from Australia to ask about the cars and make sure they had something which suited our needs - and they did. Simple phone call ensured we had a car that was only a few months old (only 9000km on speedo). We paid for a new car and got a new car. We emailed prior to leaving Australia to confirm all was still okay following earthquake in Christchurch and had prompt replies to emails.

Glacier Hot Pools

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Glacier Hot Pools.
It rained the whole time we were on the West Coast so we could only spend limited time at the glacier. We spent the afternoon at the hot pools instead with our two children and loved it. The pools were not crowded when we were there. Perhaps at other times of the day they are more crowded, but we had a perfect afternoon and loved it. Very clean facilities.
