From motorhome perspective only - cabins may be better esp thus time of year.
Accidents waiting to happen I'm afraid. Toilet shower combined in shonky old building can hear/smell men and women; slippery floors even after mopping it yourself and women manouver around bins and unsafe levels to get to; windows and louvres broken so lack of privacy to public walkway; mirror tiny; water wonderfully hot 😊 Wooden floor boards deteriorating. Muddy, lightless, hilly driveway upto laundry from motorhome area; buy tokens cost me $16 one wash and 2xdry. Small turning area when lots of people, reasonably flat area for motorhome but can't back all way in or slip on gravel and unlevel. Kitchen fully equipped. Good view in only 2 spots. View from rickety seating area is lovely😁

Great place to stay.
Short walk on paths across conservation dunes to get to beach! Multiple amenities blocks. Clean 50c 5min showers; huge fully equipped kitchens with glass front fridges. Bit boggy on grass but plenty of other options for motorhomes.

LOVE this spot!!!
Large flat area. Quiet. No amenities so make sure you are self-contained. Cloudy night but the stars would be amazing as little light pollution. Looking forward to a walk on the seashell covered beach in the morning for pictures of the sunrise and spotting shorebirds; maybe visit the Pukorokora Miranda Shorebird Centre www.miranda-shorebird.org.nz/about-us

We intended to stay and relax here but we drove around the outside saw the overgrown and unkempt permanent vans and kept driving.
Probably missed out on a wonderful time at the springs because of first impressions.

Nice place.
Excellent for caravans!!! Multiple accommodation options. Fairly new. Amenities spotless! Toilers and showers in separate buildings. Water in showers temparature controlled and set at 2 mins at the press of a button... you restarr water multiple times If you set up on a powered site higher up be prepared to walk on uneven ground and grass in the dark to the only amenities block... which are spotless. Walk around some vegetation, or meander around to the the cafe and picnic areas, and across the road for amazing walks along the black sand beach and visit the awesome ganet colony. Most pricey place we've stayed in our 4 weeks in NZ. $44 2 people and motorhome on a powered site.

LoveD our stay here.
We were going to stay in Franz Josef but places looked cramped... so glad we jept going. Friendly greeting from staff and amazing views on the beach... esp sunset!!!! Great idea repurposing shipping crates; well designed and all fronted with glass. Not overly keen on the frosted glass wall on the shower toilet block as you can see people dressing when the lights are on. The powered sites were wonderfully large private flat areas surrounded on three sides by NZ flax? The powered sites back up against a road which the locals use at the end of the day to access the beach and walk their dogs but we were not disturbed. If you are visiting the West side of NZ you should definitely stay here! Worth every cent!!!! And then head into Ross and meet the amazing people at the Heritage site. LOVE THIS TOWN!!!!
Hi Sharon, sounds like you thoroughly enjoyed your time here, thanks got the great review - Ross is a funky little township to be park of.
Hope you enjoyed the rest of your travels

This site is wonderful.
We set up in an isolated parking area and had peace and quiet all night.... except for the sounds of nature LOVED IT! Very cold this time of year so rug up. We didn't do any exploring but heard the tracks are beautiful. No lights in toilets, which were OK considering the amount of people, so we used our headlamps. Snow capped mountains to greet me in the morning but if you're hoping for a sunrise picture it's in the other direction and comes later in the valleys ☺ so if you're on a schedule plan well and find a scenic spot. We were happy to pay the small fee for being allowed to stop overnight. It goes towards upkeep and if we don’t sites like this could close before my friends and family can visit.

This site is now a self contained vehicle FREE camping spot.
Toilets cleaned regularly and lights on at night. Flat gravel parking areas side by side nose to surf or further back for more privacy. Views of ocean and Greymouth city lights. If you like the sound of roaring waves, sea salt spray and the wind rocking you to sleep this is the place to stay. I can see another FREE spot further up closer to surf and no amenities but still nice; wind and spray would be greater. SS Australia
