This is one of my favourite rides in the North Island and its highly recommended to stay at Black Fern Lodge if you want a truly off-the-beaten track experience.

I love the cloud forest through the sub-alpine region, makes you feel like you are inside a Lord of the Rings scene and expect to see hobbits or the black horses emerging from the mist...
