The Otago Rail Trail itself is great fun.
Cycle surgery have good bikes and equipment and it's good that you can leave your bike when you have had enough - but poor info and organisation once we left their base at Middlemarch.

Great walk across sand dunes - very sandy!
Saw seals on the beach but missed the penguins (we were there at the wrong time). Very enjoyable all the same.

Guides are very knowledgeable on geography and history. Not too difficult to climb the glacier, amazing views and definitely worth the money.
