A gravel car park beside the sea, with space for about 8 campers.
Nice grassy area and playground for kids to play in. We saw glowing phosphorescent waves rolling in after the sun went down which was a bit of a treat! Good shore for beachcombing, great spacious and clean toilets nearby, and sheltered picnic area beside the playground. Not too busy when we were there, still places available at 5pm despite being school holidays (April 2018).

A bit strange setting up to camp out in a car park, but what a beautiful view to wake up to!
Our favourite free camp spot on Coromandel by far. Only three spaces available which filled up by 4pm when we were there (April 2018 school hols). Toilets are not flash but are clean and close by. Lots of dog walkers and runners use the walking track alongside the camping spots so expect to hear folks around your camper early in the morning. A 10-15min stroll to shops, boats and playground.
