Amazing campground.
If I designed the perfect holiday park this is what it would look like. Well-manicured grounds, gravel surfaces that drain well in the rain, spacious configuration between spots, immaculate facilities, a cozy kitchen/lounge, showers with adjoined changing stalls with heaps of hooks, Kiwi’s serenading you to sleep, should I go on? Only bummer was that it poured the whole night we were there. There are hikes from the grounds that we would have liked to do and glowworm viewing in bushes around the grounds.

Okay, not great for a Kiwi Holiday Park though.
Their other ones are much nicer. Pretty clean and well kept but somewhat cramped and older.

Very nice for a DOC spot.
We stayed in Ottos. As of this post the toilets felt quite new and were very clean (and flush!) there are even two covered outdoor sinks for washing dishes and a covered picnic area. Great Lake access a stones throw from the center of the camp. Surprisingly few sandflies while we were there (although I’m sure that varies)

Amazing location.
This is a huge site with plenty of creekside views. Probably the most scenic view we had from a spot in our van our whole trip of the creek and the Eglinton valley behind. Toilets were gross but wasn’t expecting much. Gravel surfaces which is nice for the rainy climate.

Great little spot!
Pleasantly surprised. Walking distance to downtown. Way the grounds are set up makes little areas of sites feel private. Nice facilities and eclectic decorations make it feel nicer.

Amazing park.
Great powered spots (and unpowered van spots are nice too, just a wee bit smaller but still separated nicely from adjacent spots). Short drive into town or 20-30min walk). Excellent facilities and nice little spa+sauna for hire. Kitchen was a bit too small but there is also a nice outdoor kitchen/bbq area covered with heaters outside. One of our favorite places we stayed.
Hi Matt, Thanks for giving us a 9 out of 10, we are about to renovate the communal kitchen & lounge area after the school holidays in July so hopefully you can come back some time to see!

Excellent location and views.
Good facilities but is probably always crowded (even was in April).

Piwiwiwi is an excellent company that is truly family-centric.
Nick and his family make the whole rental experience so comfortable and are extremely trust-worthy. Why rent from a large company where you are just a dollar sign when you can rent from a company like Piwiwiwi? They made us feel very confident in our trip and the rental process, both before and during our rental. We had the pleasure of meeting the whole family during our complimentary airport pick-up and drop-offs and these types of guestures are what we value in a company that we are relying on for something as important as a campervan rental (since it is both transportation AND accomodation!).
The vans are older model Toyota Hi-Aces (as of this post), although they are in the process of upgrading their fleet. This did not bother us at all since our van was meticulously cared for, in great mechanical and cosmetic shape, and suited our needs. The vans are equipped with literally all the basics, and we did not find we needed anything more. Sure they are no racecars, but that's not why you rent a campervan! It's best to go slow and enjoy the beautiful NZ scenery anyways. The vans are also without any flashy logos and paint jobs so they look less touristy, which we enjoyed.
Overall, this is the company you should be renting from if you value trust in business, good relationships, and an authentic Kiwi travel experience. Much thanks to Nick, Julie, Holly, and William for an unforgettable experience!

Excellent spot for powered sites.
Unpowered sites aren’t as nice. Powered sites have a better view of the lake. Facilities are GREAT. Best showers we had the whole time. Only problem we encountered was muddy grass (it rains here often). Most other rainy areas we stayed in have gravel, which doesn’t necessarily look as nice but is much more efficient in that weather.

Pretty nice campground.
The powered sites are beautifully set in a rainforest loop with plenty of space between them. Is pricey but makes sense for the area. We enjoyed staying one night instead of rushing the Milford drive and cruise in one day. Facilities aren’t big enough for how many people are there. No real WiFi (costs a ton due to remoteness, not really their fault).
