Had a pitch right on harbour with small garden and concrete sofa.
Penguins just across the road as they leave their chicks under the rowing boats. Amazing to watch them for 2 evenings about 10 ish hopping out of the sea to feed the chicks. The town is very interesting especially if you are into steampunk. Small kitchen. Not a pretty campsite but it’s position next to a super children’s playground and beautiful harbour compensates. Delicious ice cream on site!
Great you enjoyed your stay. Such a bonus with the playground right next door.

Only came here as free car park near Cathedral cove no longer available.
Very expensive but pitch was nice size. Best pitches with sea view but probably need advance booking. Lovely beach right near and you can walk to cathedral cove. Facilities ok... didn’t really warrant being most expensive night of our 31???

Very quiet village with a beach you can drive for miles on.
Campsite is different! Have a walk around just to look at the creative caravan conversations! We could chose our pitch. Walk to beach... local shop serves delicious ice cream! Showers are good with music and colourful shower curtains! TV room and snooker room.
Thank you for the review, much appreciated.

Perfectly situated for walking into old town.
Lots of long term caravanners on site. Have to pay for showers and Wi-fi. Free Wi-fi in town and New Orleans bar. Barbecue was broken. Didn’t use small kitchen. Not our favourite site but ok for 1 eve spent in old town.

Pitches are a good size with thick hedges giving privacy between vans.
Kitchen good. Tv room and games room. Tiny pool. Dormitory rooms near kitchen made it a lively site. Long walk to town.
Thank you for your review, it is much appreciated.

Choose this for convenient location rather than being a great site.
Pitches small. Kitchen small. Lounge. Pool and hot tubs free which was nice. Wi-fi free but hopeless. Can walk to whale watching, peninsula walk and town.

Nice situation on lake and walking distance of town, hot spring place and the famous church.
Some pitches had nice view over lake. 2 toilet blocks, one unisex one shared so request a pitch near which one you prefer? Didn’t use the kitchen but it looked small.

A DOC campsite that you pay in a box.
They come and check every evening. Beautiful views and fantastic walks from the site. Flush toilets and big kitchen. No problem finding room for large campervan but it was very popular, so don’t arrive too late!

Not really a beach, more mud flats with shells but good for bird watchers.
Site was pleaseant with good pitch sizes, kitchen and lounge. Wi-fi only worked near reception. Too far to walk into town.

Very very different!
The actual campsite is nothing special, with only a small kitchen and ok sized pitches. But you get free access, before the public, to lovely hot pools and big showers! The cafe is great, and the short walk to the source of the hot river is a fantastic sight! Considering how much other places charge for pools and boiling streams, this is amazing!! Loved it!!

Made the last night in our van really special.
Park right alongside the water. Great for bird watching. No facilities and no camping but that didn’t stop 2 tent fulls of teenagers!! Sunset pretty special here! Just down the road from the Miranda Bird place.

Only about 10 pitches and parked so close together we couldn’t open all doors.
Toilets open 24hours. Stony beach not easy to walk on. Take coast road to town... picturesque drive. Very very windy night... thought we’d lose our roof covers!

Stayed here because Whakapapa was full.
Bus gets you to crossing start earlier from there. Does pick up here though. Pitches ok size but too near road which was noisy at times. Very old facilities and mixed showers which couples seemed to enjoy!!! TV lounge, pool table. No view of mountain.

Very small pitch which was challenging to manoeuvre into.
Very close to next van...and nowhere to sit outside van, if van is large! Lively site with backpacker lodges . Well situated for walking into town. Great bar and pizza place on site.
