Free spot right in town along Harbour.
Good spot for parking and leaving vehicle with easy walking down Main Street Akaroa. Toilets near parking area were quite terrible for cleanliness but hey it’s free and there’s other great toilet blocks in town. Be sure to arrive early though as the spots fill up...can only park in yellow lined areas.

Friendly staff, CLEAN facilities, hot unlimited showers, kitchen (stove, sinks, refrigerator, freezer, microwave, toaster), loung/tv room and laundry ($3 washer, $2 dryer).
Only $29 for two ppl non powered site. Stopped in without booking and they made space for us...loved it so much we stayed another night.
Hi. thanks for your great review.

We stayed here the night before hiking Roy’s Peak.
Very nice camp with big kitchen (refrigerator, stove, boiling water tap, sinks, and cooktops) that stayed pretty full during mealtimes. Hot showers $1/6 min or you can take cold shower. Facilities clean and views across lake Wanaka beautiful.

$13/person DOC site which may be a bit expensive but did have flush toilets and outdoor sink area for washing dishes.
Cooking shelter area and footpath down to waterfront. Sandflies of course :).

Hot unlimited showers, flush toilets, two kitchen facilities (we liked the lower one) with toaster, fridge, stoves, & boiling water tap.
We did utilize laundry here before catching ferry ($3 each washer/dryer but you pay at check in and receive tokens. $1 for washing soap).
In town-ish $36 for non-power 2 ppl. Many long term residents but they didn’t bother us.

We VERY much enjoyed this site.
Big clean kitchen area with refrigerator, boiled water tap, stovetop, BBQ, some cooking/cleaning up supplies. We had a site RIGHT on the waterfront where we enjoyed watching the ducks/black swans. Beautiful views across lake to watch sunrise in the morning.
Clean toilets and showers (hot and unlimited).

Fine for a free spot one night after taking ferry.
Not too scenic, had toilets (dirty/no lighting), and some green space. Very full (arrive early!!) and seemed like there were quite a few young regulars. Right in town though and we went in for a nice breakfast.

This was a great free spot!!
Maybe 7-8 spots (didn’t count) RIGHT on the waterfront. Toilets on site with tap water on the side of building.
Enjoyed a gorgeous sunrise in the morning.
Only reason it’s not a 10 is because of the location being in town despite being beautiful.

Beautiful spot on the waterfront with brand new toilet block on site and outside surfers shower.
Cute walking park just next door.
We chose to walk to a takeaway shop nearby for fish n chips but be prepared as it’s cash only.
Only downside to this site was the wind!!! So strong the van was shaking all night. Arrive at a decent time as it does fill up but there are quite a few spaces.

Great free spot with wonderful views!!
Yes, it’s a parking lot area but right on the water, with great landscape, flushing toilets, potable water and walking tracks right on site. Be sure to get there early-ish though as spots are limited.
We stayed the night before taking the ferry and it was easy access in the morning.

Great spot for free.
Owners have a little general store/petrol station and parking is on the side lawn. Dump station available & toilets. We had a good interaction with owners but some others near us did not (unsure of situation). Be sure to check in upon arrival!!

Good, LARGE DOC site $13/person taken by doc representative at entry.
Walking track on site, cooking shelters, multiple toilet blocks (long drops, no lighting), large water drums with tap (not for drinking unless boiled). Last spot before milford and good for catching a morning boat.

Beautiful free space with PLENTY of parking spots, gorgeous views of Mt Cook across lake Pukaki, minimal bugs (no sand flies), and brand new long drop toilet block.
Would stay again!

We really liked this spot!!
Dean the owner was so nice and helpful. Just across the road from river access, walking tracks on site, and glowworms. Enjoyed some drinks in the pub, unlimited hot showers, flushing toilets (co-ed), and kitchen area (we didn’t use).
Be sure not to park on gravel patch in upper area (plenty of other spaces to choose and you WILL get stuck - trust us).
Delicious breakfast in the morning and very good coffee!!! Would stay here again even with the sandflies

Wanted to review this park even though we didn’t stay the night because it is gorgeous!
Staff were accommodating allowing us to pay just $8/person for a full day use (till 4pm) of facilities CLEAN (hot unlimited showers, toilets, laundry, and fully equipped kitchen facilities with refrigerator and relaxing lounge to wait while laundry finished). We also grabbed coffee at the cafe in reception area (delicious). Kea sightings included :)

Great free spot right on the beach!
Flushing toilets and potable water tap.
We walked to the 4square for supplies and takeaway food from Gannets Bar. Lots of parking spaces with beautiful views. Listened to the waves at night :).

Called ahead to book and spoke with a very friendly gentleman.
Had intended to stay for use of laundry/showers. Upon arrival found pricing to be $40 for two people non-powered, only parking on semi circle gravel driveway (mostly full), and no dryer for laundry (not a huge deal overall but as it rains over 200 days/year we wouldn’t have been able to get laundry dry). As we couldn’t use facilities as hoped we opted to ask for refund and moved along to much nicer/cheaper DOC site down the road. Reception lady was less friendly but did refund us. We felt the DOC site was better value for less money.

We pulled over in this general region (I think it was this spot) and it was BEAUTIFUL.
No facilities and quite a few sand flies. Perfect for self contained vehicles. We actually used the toilets before leaving town and had no issue.

This was our first stay in New Zealand.
Good, clean facilities (toilets, hot unlimited showers, kitchen area). Laundry in kitchen area (didn’t use but nice option). Parking is essentially a gated parking lot behind the pub.
We were provided with multiple free WiFi vouchers and 10% off food at pub.
$33 for 2 ppl non-powered March 2018
