Try to come here once a year.....its got the lot.
Feels like you're abroad in a fancy holiday park! It's got your usual arcade style area and rentable gokarts and trampoline pillow (2 of those, actually) but also has an electronic game that I cant quite describe and best of all.....WHAT A POOL!!! It has a screen for daily movies, a cave you can dive down in to touch the treasure chest at the bottom, and a BAR! In the pool! I haven't seen for a few months but I believe there is now some slides that, judging by the designs they had up last time, looked like theyd be amazing. If you have kids and dont fancy abroad, this I'd your place. Plus, Taupo itself is amazing.

First of all, the staff were totally fine and I dealt with two of them, so not sure what happened with the other reviewers here.
Didnt want to come here because of the negative reviews but other places booked out so we came here and its totally FINE! Pretty, peaceful, safe (no idea why someone disnt feel safe here?!), great little area for our two year old (big bouncy thing, a trampoline and the usual climbing, swing and slide stuff), and theres a games room. Its spacious and the pitch for our tent was just fine with zero peg problems. It's not the best site ever but absolutely does what it says on the tin. You will do fine here!

I am there as I write this and leaving my first Ranked review to say how lovely this place is.
DoC sites are never bad, and most are good, but this one is a bit special, and is in close contest for best one with the 2 at the top of the Coromandel....Port Jackson or something like that and the one just after it! With Lake Hawea you're talking a 'proper' lake, and have passed many times and am chuffed to have the opportunity to camp next to it.....for 8 dollars per person! 8!!! Best value for money ever! Anyway, lovely views, right on top of Lake, toilets and kitchen type area spic and span, and ranger Sally was lovely. Love seeing the lights of the cars pass by on the main road on the other side of the lake at twilight. No sandflies to speak of on this day. Love it.
